Cheers, lads. PM me - I'd like to talk about these Russells and what you work with. -

As an everyday staple, no, but I add pumpkin puree or mashed sweet potatoes to their diet a few times per week, which is excellent for them. My Russells are also keen about carrots. Hope it helps. -
I have two small Russells that regularly go to ground bolting ground hog and are also very handy ratters. Both are keen to work and have span-able chests to get in and out of the earth.

There's nothing better in my opinion than keeping a dog on raw - feeding here a raw beef mix and also green tripe - they do well on both. -

Thinking I figured out this photobucket thing - first shot is my male 11" with a spanable chest and the second is my bitch - she'll be a year old next month - 10" and spanable also. -

Great thread - nice to see. I've got two Russells now who I work. Both under 12" with spanable chests, keen to go to ground on ground hog and feisty as anything when it comes to field rats and chipmunks. Good laid back dogs in the house as well and fit as fiddles. The male comes from old Westerly lines here in the states used back in the day. The bitch is from domestic lines that can be traced back to England many years ago. If someone can explain how to upload pics here I'll post a few shots? -
You can call around to some of your local livery or stud stables - see if they will let you bring your bitch in to rat out the hay and grain rooms - where's there's feed there's rats and they aren't welcome at all. You'll get an idea then if your bitch is a good ratter or not.
