Well, someone else said I can use their hob on my jill so ill probably end up getting a hob in january or december and snipping him then or ill wait untill the jills are out of season. get the hob sniped aug then he be ready the next season u need to wait a few months after the op anyway before hes clear so you rkn I should use another hob and then get mine done in like august (next year)?

would by miniature fox terrier be any good?
Dameize replied to Dameize's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Yeah mate, its Australian. I lived there for like 10 years and got it over there. In australia you get miniature ones and theyre used on farms etc and in the U.S you get toy fox terriers which are a bit different. Not many people seem to know what they are lol. Have a read of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miniature_Fox_Terrier -

Hm ill have to keep that in mind col if the ferrets chew that chicken wire and can get through the bigger stuff thats doubled over it.

Not sure, my granda had it in the garage from when he built something else a while back. He used to build trailers so i think its off when he did that.

nah itl be outside but in a warmer corner. The lid on the bottom half is actually detachable and now has bolts to lock it in place and is completely felted. I imagine the ferret will be warm enough inside is sepperated for a bedding area. Now its finished ill have to take more pics. ill up them tomorrow Ive made it a little bridge system with a ramp and steps etc its not very high but should keep it entertained. Under neath the bridges is more tubing and on the back wall of the bottom half is a bit of guttering for it to climb in. Ive also got a hammock on the way so once its all

It makes me sick when people steal pets. <- well not exactly pets but you get me

Im pleased I have someone who agrees might be the most financially wise option as well. Gives me an excuse to get another ferret also

I currently own a miniature fox terrier. Its about five and has never been worked and primarily kept as a pet. Ive taken it for walks a few times and let it off the lead and it has pulled things out of holes that it has found (this was when I lived in Australia, it pulled a possum out). Anyway, my question is if the fox terrier has never been worked if I took it ferreting would it be capable of actually catching/getting the rabbits and would it know what to do? I figured this would be the best section to post it. The dog is fairly placid but has its moments and you can see what its like so

all advice is great and welcomed most people seem to have the same general opinion. I wouldnt be as worried if I only had one but if it was 2x jills in season for months I would be a bit concerned about it. Ive decided im going to get 2x jills and for their first season ill use a vacd hob from someone and then ill get a hob kit just after that and get him vacd towards the end up the year. that way I will have 3x ferrets. It would also work out well as by then I should be steady away ferreting so having 2x jills and a hob will be handy. cheers to everyone giving me advice and being

what happens if you shell out to get a hob vacd and it doesnt work? is the vet likely to do it again for free ? Depends how 'persuasive' you are lol id be pretty annoyed if I paid and it wasnt successful. that would be 50ish for nothing.

thats the way we always done it ,plus there was no internet around then just done what everybody done .never heard bout jill jabs untill the 90s no idea how long its been around but then they say its now outdated and potentialy dangerous just get implants at 90 quid lol .am only goin down the vas hob route cause the internets talked me into it plus if it backfires least it will cover a working jill ... the power of advertising and the internet right enough I think about it like this. . . . . If i was a ferret jill and was in season. and didn't want kits. . would i rather. .

This whole jill thing seems to be a bit of hassle. If I get a male and a female in say the next month or two and get the male a vasectomy in say the november or so that would be fine right?. Again, your welcome to have a dig but the jill will only get pregnant if in season right? Thanks.
-
so is the whole the jill will die if not mated or spayed thing a myth? obviously I wouldnt want any harm to come to it but yeah.. for the sake of 40 quid though I probably will just spay them so its not stuck in season for a while. I was also considering getting an anti social ferret from a ferret shelter but id rather two and a few people have said ferret shelter ferrets arnt usually the best option. At the minute its looking like ill go with a jill and a hob and then ill get the hob a vasectomy. Either that or two hobs and getting them both done before they go into rut one towards t

dont worry, my facebook is in my stepdads surname and my profile is private. I probably will stick some legs on it. ive got a days worth of painting and felting left though yet

I think its a stupid idea if your gona mate the ferrets just so you can pay a vets bill and plus it not easy to shift ferret kits because to many people breed them for no reason at all Fair enough, Ill probably end up spaying. Not having a pop at you mate you have been honest and said you dont have much experience fair play to you atb no worries, i knew that. just getting as much advice on board so I can make the decision when choosing the sex as it will impact later on. in all honesty, the money isnt that big a deal but getting 2 done at once wil be a chunk of moneyfor me.

lol the top hutch has a ribbed type of pipe into the bottom area. All up I think the bottom area is about 3.5ft - 4ft long and 2ft wide. the top is about 2ft wide and 2ft long. When I made it I though tit would be a good design as it would have its top area dry and out of the way and then if it wanted it could go and lounge in the more open bottom half.
-
I wouldnt say its exactly tight but since im living board free my grandparents wouldnt be to happy if I spent like 100 quid getting ferrets done lol. Ill probably end up getting them spayed though one one month and then another the next or something.
