you wont go far wrong with a patterdale they have plenty of brains and have the heart of a lion
Would there be any benefit in buying or dog or are bitches more sound , just that when it comes lurchers i have always found bitches to be easier to work with ?
-
if ur digging the past few years buy a pup of the lads ur digging with or wait untill they put u on to someone ur mates wont put u wrong
Think your probably [bANNED TEXT] , as some people on here just seem to want to take the piss !! cheers
i would try and find some good working line,s ,if you know the lads were your mate got his dog try there ,but to be honest people keep good lines tight to there chest and nomaly all pups are spoken for before the bitch is even lined . i personaly wouldnt get one from any were else the countrymans ,and other advertisers if the dogs were that good ie 110% then they wouldnt have to advertise them .
there,s some good lads on this site and maybe someone will help you out, but people dont just give pups to anyone they dont know .
ive had 2 pups go out to lads about 2 1/2 years ago and they have seen nothing this is what happens when you give pups to the wrong person
the other 3pups are doing fine and holding there own but time will tell oh and kennaling a lurcher and terrier together is a big no no as your mate has learned
sectioning the kennels off mate dont want anything untoward happening !! sound advice thankyou

if uv been diggin the past few years im very suprised only gettin ur own terrier now, plus if uv been diggin with ur mate have their terriers not made an impression on u that u cud say id like 1 of them.. Ive a kept a few different breeds of working terrier but my heart stopped on the patterdale, if got 1 from the right breedin i think theres no better but this is just MY preferance, others will certainly have theirs...

Never had enough space for extra dogs bud just finishin off a new set of kennels cos starting to put team together instead of just running one lurcher , patterdales do stand out more than any other and until my mates lucher shook his patterdale todeath in the kennel i havent seen a better dog than that one , going ground he had a beddy to but it was a lunatic !!

As a fan of working terriers and seen plenty of digging over the past few years ,I am considering buying my first terrier and was looking for a bit of sensible advice from some people who know more than me ? i ahve been told about a variety of different breeds supposedly being the best type to use but the one that pops up more often than not is the patterdale terrier as apparently they will just start going to ground vertually on there own and start working at around eight/ nine month old which is supposed to make them easier to work with for the novice terrier man , as appose to the likes of other breeds such as borders which will not favour starting work before they hit around 2 years of age ..
Are the stories i hear true enough as i favour the looks of the paterdales but in the main i am after a good dog that wil appreciate the work it gets and obviously want to give myself the best chance of owning such an animal that will bring me on as much as i can it ?

i bred a beddy bitch non worker to a champion racer dog and have had no trouble with the bitch i kept which is now four and a half years old the other three pups are just the same they will run anything , granted the bitches are tend to struggle a little on faster stuff but they get there in end ( please bare in mind that they are only 18" but the dog of the litter is 20" and he takes it in his stride. Never have i seen such a game temprament in such a breed of dog they are like bull crosses when hunting together and they never give up day or night, tuff as old boots you might say !!! i am putting my bitch into pup this week and putting a working whippet on her ( sooty sam lines) and if the pups have the same qualities of the parents ( i know the dog to ) they will be a1 on anything and i wouldnt ever breed to any thing other than maybe a beddy/greyhound first cross.
If your after a dog to do rabbitts day or night or maybe even a bit of the other stuff you wont go far wrong with this breed of dog. excellent feet , take knocks well , and will try their utmost for you and you ant ask much more than that..
Three are already spoken for but if your interested drop me an e-mail the address is on my profile/ if all goes well they will be ready to go early - mid feb would like all the pups to go to their first and only home. and they will be ready for light work jan / feb 2011

did you forget to mention that if you hang them by the head you end up wi stinkin piss all down ya leg ?

cheapest option is when your out there is always bailing twine laid around put it use !!! find a two or three foot length tie the ends together and bobs your uncle a rabbit carrier ,, make cut in one of the back legs put string between legs and put other leg through the cut you made, it is now on carrier and sling it over your shoulder ,!!!!!!!!!!
it saves you money on expensive gear that you will lose or wont last long and you are doing your bit for mother nature by tyding the countrysideup a bit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :victory:

they will all be good dogs in the correct hands but you cant go wrong with a beddy greyhound (beddy dog over greyhound bitch) they are the buisness
