    I've just insured my pup. I think I'll insure her for at least the first couple of years while she learns her trade. Can't remember the company I went with I just went with "go compare" recommendations. But I didn't take the cheapest/most highly recommended one as it was only a few pence per month cheaper yet you could only claim up to £1000 per claim. I went with the third recommended one for few pence more you can spend up to £15,000 per and knowing what some vets charge I thought it was the better option.

    Thanks Shaaark, she already has the speed agility to match that shape also. I've never seen a pup so fast at this age.

     

    She's lurcher to lurcher bred. Both sire and dam are deerhound,greyhound, whippet. The sire also has a splash of collie and bedlington in his breeding. You can't really see it in the pictures but she has a lot of long hairs in her coat so I think she will end up rough or broken coated.

    Cheers tb, I am enjoying her being a pup mate. Well most of it, its just when she decides the day is starting at 05:30 and decides the whole neighborhood should know. Although we have made a lot of progress on that. She does occasionally have a relapse lol

     

    Another plus is I've gotten to meet some new neighbours. Who it turns out are very nice ...... For now lol

    I'm sure this will have been done to death but ....

     

    In the next couple of years I can see my free time/ hunting time changing for the better quite a bit. Because if this I will have quite a few jobs for a spaniel from flushing game for gun, hawk and lurcher to retrieveing from a pigeon hide to picking up on a large shoot. So I want the most capable and especially versatile spaniel. Please feel free to put forward your opinions on breeds, bloodlines, reasons and breeders.

    Hi, do any of you use your spaniel cross terriers for ratting. I would expect this cross to be good at bushing possibly retrieving shot game and possibly nailing game in cover. So I was just wondering if they could do the ratting game as well? If so surely that would make them a really good all round x bred dog.

    Always good sign when the owner/breeder keeps one theirselves,means they value the litter and parent dog.

     

    Personally I wouldn't have a pup from a breeder that wasn't keeping a pup for themselves. That means it's a commercial venture. With there being very little profit to be made on lurcher pups. I feel they would have to cut some expences to maximize the profit. For me, that would put me right off. Well that rules Hancock out! lol

    I agree with both Roy and low plains drifter. I have never bred a litter, for me to go to the trouble of breeding a litter. I would have to have to have a truly exceptional bitch and access to a really great stud. I've only had two what I would call truly exceptional dogs in my life. Both males, hence I've never bred a litter. But everything ever fell into place, I would love to raise a pup I'd bred from day one.

    Very pleased for you Roy. As I said in our pm's I didn't feel this was the litter for me at the time. For certain reasons, but that doesn't mean I don't feel a certain amount of regret. For not putting my name to a pup from this litter. As others have said I feel some very special dogs could come from this breeding. On top of that it seems they will be given the best of starts from yourself. As you've said if raised properly there is no profit in lurcher pups. Especially when you take into account time and effot put into raising a litter. But it's very easy to tell your motivation is in getting a pup for yourself. I'm sure the pups will be a credit to you.
