  1. Cheers all. I'm doing a channel grate while I'm at it....started digging it out yesterday....its clay once your a foot down. Going to buy a decent spade as one I'm using is going to snap, those trench spades look decent. Still tempted to connect to the side of the manhole, but I might as well dig down given the mess I've made.

  2. Need to connect to waste drain for the dog waste. I have good access to the manhole in the garden. Once the manhole cover is removed it's about 4ft deep with five accesses at the bottom, 3 in use 2 with blanks.

Q 1, I take it I will have to use a P trap to stop the smell coming back up. Given I will be dropping the crap down a new grate am I better having the trap attached to the grate just below ground level or where it connects to the bottom of the manhole connector?

Q2, Another daft question do I have to drop a bucket of water down each time after I put the crap down it to force it to the other side of the p trap....hope that makes sense.

Q3, I suppose breaking a hole into the side of the manhole about 1 ft down would save some digging, but is not advised?

Thanks all......and are them trench digging spades any good?

  3. Built a couple of box kennels in the past..turned out ok....not brill.....I was going to buy one but now looks like I'm going to build one again.

Im wanting to know what wood you'd recommend....sheet ply.....tongue n groove etc for the external..thickness etc

It's going to be insulated.....would kingspan type be best and what thickness

What would you line the inside with ply....what thickness ( although I can see one of my bitches taking a leek in it because if it's raining out she's that way inclined.

I will be using some sort of anti chew angle metal around the edges.

    Thanks

I'm after a good quality box kennel for my two dogs....the type you put in a run...... And usually lift the lid off to clean inside. Ive usually built my own but pushed for time at moment.

Needs to be a good quality and good insulation chew strips etc. I've searched the web and it's hard to tell a good company from a not so good one sometimes so I'd prefer a recommendation. Or if you believe there's a better style let me know...I'm flexible to some degree.

    Thanks

I built my last two kennels.....box style......removable lid to help cleaning etc. If I was to buy one can anybody recommend a company they have used or a particular kennel type they find good. I've looked at a few on the net......but telling a good company from one that's not so good from just pictures worries me.

It will house two lurchers....both around 21 inch size wise. The kennel is going to be enclosed in an area separate to the rest of the garden....probably using that school type fencing and a concreted drained area.

    Thanks

Mines terrible. Pretty sure I got the odd one out. Mines ridiculously sensitive......keeps her distance from who ever when ever.......she's also the most sensitive dog to wet weather I have ever come across. Please don't let my experience put you off.

Still got the spaniel cross mate?

    Hello Mustelid,,,,

Yes still got her.....she's a lovely dog, I can't sing her praises highly enough for daytime hunting about. Not the fastest dog I've owned, but catches the most game and gives me the most pleasure. She's a bloody clever dog, she herds , stalks and drops a hell of a lot when playing with my other bitch.....so although she's half spaniel there seems to be a strong collie trait in there somewhere......and its come out in a good way for me for a change. She has her real busy side if she scents something, but also a very methodical scanning side to her where she is a lot more stealth. Her skill with hunting squirrels amazes me. I have to watch her for sneaking behind close to my legs as she tends to carry them alive.

She's incredibly sensitive to thunder and when rain hammers down on the conservatory roof........I reckon this has something to do with someone setting some of those ridiculously loud type of bangers off early September time when she was a pup when out with me one night in the local park.....caused her to bolt for home.

She's one of those dogs which is incredibly quick to command.....which I love. If I send her over a wall or into a field she can get into a bit of a muddle....wanting to come straight back to me unless it's on her terms......but this is more to do with me not really putting no work into this when she was younger.

I don't know if all spaniel lurchers turn out the way she has, but I feel very lucky....they all certainly look very similar. I reckon they have a lot to offer the day time hunter who knows what they want in a dog and not just wanting numbers, but a dog that gives them a lot of reward. I would certainly be on the look out for another if anything ever happened to mine......and I would travel a long way. For me I would definitely be going down the gundog route as opposed to your usual offerings.

    Cheers

  7. It's been a long time since I've done any lamping so it's not really something I can give advice about. If you're looking for a bright torch have a look at some of the powerful Fenix's, they give out an untinted white light:

    http://www.torchdirect.co.uk/searchlight-torches.html

Yep, there's some powerful torches out there......with crazy throw...I can't understand why lamp makers make there lamps so big...as long as it can cope with the heat of the led and have a constant current your half way there.....your always going to lose some brightness not using the cool white, but you get better colour rendering/ indentification.

The latest hl leds are dedomed and good for throw giving better intensity. good torches arnt cheap though.

  8. Torches not really ideal for lamping, but for the odd hour here and there. You can get some quite good torches these days most run on 18650 batteries......, but I have one that runs on AA batteries and it's got a decent beam....if I can find a vid on the beam 10 mins I'll post up.

Just wondered about torches, because some you can choose the led tint, instead of been cool white you can go for something a bit more warmer.

  9. Jesus is he still going?

I had one off him 12 months ago. Ordered September. Was assured it would come for Xmas and it never did. I sent him loads of messages and didn't get replies.

I did get it in the end but it was well into the new year.

Bloody hell...over 4 months wait .....that's some bloody backlog, he must be making money hand over fist......four f&@king months.....wow, how the hell is he still getting away with that.

  10. No expert, but maybe simpleshots scout seems a good starting point....., can get it for their site, but be careful of import charges etc,,,,,saying that I didn't get charged......or you can buy from the slingshot channel with no handling charges etc, but it costs more.

I will swap a brass and bone milbro style fork for the maxim or I will do you an Ali starship for them both if you would like one to try, here is a pic of both, not really worried if it's not for you but these two don't really get used much as I have several starships, and loads of nice natty,s

Thanks Greyman,, I really appreciate your offer....I would to say yes, but I'm hoping for to get something that's going to be easy on my hand...suffering with my muscles, and unfortunately I think I'll struggle with the brass milbro, although it looks lovely. Only recently Come across the starship recently, bit too big for me.

Think I might buy a sniper type eventually....I think that's the name, one with finger grooves.

    Thanks again

not a problem mate, hathcock target sniper,by Bill Hayes is what you are referring to mate I have one of those to but it's a keeper, you can buy a cast ally one from proshot, much quicker and easier than buying from Bill Hayes in America only down side they come unbanded here,s mine,it's the small version with universal fork tips, the standard one is quite big, it is quite an easy catty to get accurate with though I find the ally Finnish a bit slippery hence the cloth tape, cheers
Yep, that's the one, with me suffering with my muscles I reckon that shape may be more friendly...well I hope so anyway.

Gamekeeper Johns ppmg ( through proshot) also looks tempting.

I shoot over the forks, but hold the catapult horizontal which feels more natural to me, I've never tried through the forks but I think I'm going to give it a try.

Something I'm considering is size, you've gone for the small sniper......which is what I was considering, but still not too sure....what size hands do you have? Mine are a good large, but but wouldn't like to stretch my hands around anything much wider than the scout. Just not too sure. Cheers

the uni forks on this will shoot any style with tubes or bands, it's solely a side shooter and if your grip is not that strong it's ok as the more you pull the bands the more it locks into your hand, I went for the small version because it's a big frame as standard, I would not say I have really big or really smal hands, but it's a nice comfy handful, the main reason I went for this over a ppmg, is the uni forks I would not like to be restricted to a ttf fork as I am much the same ott or ttf and there are some nice tubes about which I also like shooting, I think if you bought a smaller one and did,nt get on with it you would have know problem selling it on, goodluck with whatever you choose, at least it's not an expensive sport so a few bad buys won't break the bank
Cheers.....Definitely going to be on santa's list ......just out of curiosity what tubes do you favour? I only shoot 9.5 steels at the moment and have mainly shot tbgold and I think it was 1745 I tried.
