Well guys and girls. Having been around weapons for one reason or another, involved with hunting and fishing ,playing contact sports and generally leading a full on life, this has come as a bit of a shock. Seeing things double, not able to focus, losing the first letter or digit in a sentence is not to be recommended. They hope that an operation will sort it out so am awaiting a date. Quite scary really as your sight deteriorates. Not only that, driving might be an issue. Jok.

sorry to hear that bud, lets hope your date comes through soon....fingers crossed mate....

    And olive oil I believe

there are a few fake olive oils out there that you should check first....there was a program on this the other week...they were saying that a genuine olive oil usually comes in a green glass bottle as it stops a lot of day/sunlight from penetrating the oil...whereas clearer bottles in day/sunlight can get tainted and a bit bitter.....and some companies are adding canola oil (rape seed oil) to it but advertising it as olive oil....always read the label bud.....

Cooked tomatoes with the skins I've heard is good to help prevent prostate cancer.

i have heard that mentioned before about the tomatoes....another good diet is the Mediterranean diet, apparently these countries on the med diet don't have prostate cancers because of the good food they eat....

i can see the appeal of living the way you have chosen to live, it looks a nice way of living, we lived in a american motorhome for six or so years and loved every minute of it, but how do you cope living so close to each other...for me, that would be the biggest draw back, i couldn't live amongst that crowd...

what with you being a real country person and older in life, do you actually enjoy living in a floating city or is it a trade off you have to do for the services for your boat....i have never like having neighbours and the older i get the more i don't want anyone near me....

but why not have a ford nissan etc why luxury makes?

    just curious really

well, apparently back in the 60's-70's the police started to use volvo's and bmw's as they were more reliable than other makes of cars, which has been carried on through to todays vehicles, also these are considered more safer/faster and more capable than other vehicles when needed, it was mentioned that these vehicles don't cost as much for the police force as it looks....i hear what your saying tho bud, but would a nissan x trail be better than a x5 bmw for the job, or a ford ranger over a volvo xc90....etc. etc....starting out with a better package is probably more economical in the long term.....

  6. i would imaging having these vehicles it covers all aspects of driving, off road on road and winter conditions, also, these vehicles can probably carry more sizeable emergency equipment for motorway use rather than a car sized vehicle...that's my guess at it tho....

What would the cost of galv dipping it be?

i have seen people do a galv dip on a chassis with great effect, but having a look on the net i can't find an exact price, it seems it varies from company to company on per kgm2 of steel, one company was $45 kgm2 what ever that works out at? if i was doing a full resto i would look into doing that but at this moment of time i was going to just lift the body off and work with what i can get to, but that is a good shout mate.....

  8. i went to Birmingham around 15 years or more ago now and there was a breeding program/feeding station for red kites up along the m40 (i think it was) and back then we must of seen the best part of 100 birds, and by the looks of it, it has been a successful program which has spread down across to your area, maybe they follow a motorway as the feeding stations are set up close to them.....

  10. thanks for your input guys, much appreciated....the products that have been mentioned seem to be on the right track, after reading a lot more about products and methods it seems like a lot of people are saying/doing...sand blasting it clean, degrease it off, apply rust converter/inhibiter, then epoxy primer and topcoat....sounds like some sort of a plan.....should keep me busy for a while....lol

  11. is red oxide paint a good choice to put on an old truck chassis once, most of the rust is removed, obviously the chassis won't be totally rust free, we use to use red oxide on the RSJ's for years but these were for inside use, i was thinking after cleaning back the chassis, using the red oxide, then an epoxy primer then top coat, the main reason is, the council use so much salt on the roads over the winter months it kills a chassis in no time, a brand new truck will literally break in half within 6-7 years if you don't under sill it every year, we have to use a goose fat (i think it is)compound here as we are not allowed to use any form of petroleum based product due to having our own drinking water wells, i was thinking of doing the job this way as i want it to last for years and not have to keep on doing it very 2-3 years...when we lived back there i would use old engine oil and diesel as you didn't really get that bad enough winters for any length of time, but here, they could be putting salt down daily for a month if the roads are icy or even more....i was reading a canal forum were a woman put red oxide on the bow of her canal boat (after cleaning most of the rust off) and the rust bled through after a short while as the red oxide is porous, if she had of sealed it with a primer would that have still bled through eventually?....so, after all of that, are there better products out there like por15? that serve my purpose better?.....

Scotland has just banned log burners in new built houses

funny how regulations change from country to country, there promoting having a wood/pellet stove/furnace here as long as it's EPA registered with rebates of $500 on wood/pellet stoves and a $1000- $1500 on wood/pellet furnace, and, i think it's later this year that there banning oil furnaces in new builds....and at the moment there putting heat pumps in your house for free if you want one...

  13. it's always nice to see your first swallows arrive in the beginning of the year, it's one of my mums most favourite birds, she would get so much joy and pleasure seeing them arrive, as they fly back on the same old nests in the open ended stables from the year before, she would watch them from turning up right through to the chicks leaving the nest all lined up on the washing line...when i see my first swallow of the year, i always say to myself "hello mum" as it brings back some lovely memories for me, love you miss you mum....

After loosing a stone and half since Christmas and a few other health issues that's not really affected my day to day life after getting the all clear on the prostate examination and tests I have been told I am at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. As any other lads on here got this condition or same as me are at risk and what they do eating wise to keep it under control. I have also been sent a link to sign up and attend these group sessions and advice but don't want to go down that route.

i did some work for a retired nurse some time back, and just in conversation, diabetes came up which she said her father had, had it, well, she maintains that his high level count went down considerably when she put him on apple cider vinegar and honey daily, she swears by it...(my wife takes it daily for arthritis with great effects)...the best apple cider vinegar is the one called mother, it has all the bits in it that float around when you shake it....but you can buy it in capsule form....

also my uncle had diabetes, which he did get his levels down with a controlled diet....i don't know what his diet was but my auntie said he managed quite good at that time.....
