  1. Are you asking about male or female ferrets? I assume you know that a jill left in oestrus is vulnerable to complications like pyometra?
  2. The available scientific evidence. What do you base your opinions on?
  3. There is no "flu/cold type virus", the viruses that cause both are quite distinct. In particular the rhinoviruses that cause colds are species specific, so unless by some magic you've managed to catch ferret cold your animals are quite safe from your human cold.
  4. Perhaps the ferrets in your part of the country are more refined and discrete than ferrets elsewhere? Of course it's not a problem, so long as you and your daft mates don't mind having to dispose of the odd dozen or so unwanted kits from time to time.
  5. It's not just pet owners who are concerned about genetic defects, mate. I value working ferrets and have no desire to see them fecked up by people breeding for trivial things like funny colours! The ferret gene pool is already "fecked up" enough, without all of this colour daftness. How many breeders, I wonder, keep full and accurate records of their ferrets? All of them?
  6. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but is it your assertion that UK and American ferrets have a different genetic makeup? Are perhaps even different sub-species? I'm just trying to understand what it is that you're claiming. Wouldn't waste your breath mate. The bloke seems to think a genetic disorder like Waardenburgs and a disease like rabies are the same sort of thing. ..oh, and welcome to the forum! Ah, I see. An idiot then. Thanks for the welcome.

  8. I'd say you're quite right. I only became aware of this forum today, when the irresponsible nonsense being spouted here about the breeding of ferrets for pretty white splodges was drawn to my attention.
