  1. Lads, I just cooked the legs up Peri peri style and they were lovely, so tender. All you have to do is marinade in peri Peri sauce, salt, pepper, cayenne and paprika over night (or for a few hours). Sear in a pan with some garlic, a little olive oil and some lemon juice. Then cover with chicken stock and simmer for an hour, or until the meat starts coming away from the bone. Remove and then mix up with more peri Peri and then whack them on the gridal pan or bbq (prob better on bbq) to char them. Bloody lovely.

  2. Thanks.

Out of the 13, I prepped 5 whole rabbits. All the rest were just too small but still need to be cleared. The hind legs are about all you can get off these ones. Rest of the carcasses will get devoured by Mr Fox and the kites.

O and all the livers were taken too and frozen ready for my next batch of pate

  3. Cheers lads.

The scorpion is a great rifle. I bought it second-hand and it already had a trench reg fitted. It the went off to ratworks and has been transformed into an even better setup. I can't ask for anything more from a rifle tbh.

  4. Last night I went out for a bit of rabbit shooting with my ratworks BSA scorpion 177 and had a great night. There's a field on one of my permissions surrounded by woodland and its crop is being hammered this year by the bunnies. There's been a real explosion in the population. All these were shot before last light yesterday evening starting at about 7:45. Most were stalked and a few I lay out in wait for. All shots were between 15 and the longest was lazed at 48 yards. I then spent the next hour or so prepping them :) All big ones I've prepped whole and the little ones, I just removed their legs and will cook them like chicken wings.

  5. Yeah that's true Villaman.

Each to their own really. I like the position of the bolt, quicker for hand to come off the trigger, cock bolt, push forward I find. Suppose finding the right gun for you is all about what feels most comfortable and fits you right.

Both great guns really. Now the longer days are here I should be using the hw100 more often so my opinions may change.

  6. I think people are misunderstanding my previous post - I didn't say the BSA was the quieter gun overall, I was just comparing the sound of actioning the bolt compared with actioning the side lever when indexing the mag on both guns.

Muzzle report with HW mod = HW100 is quieter.

My Scorpion has been to XTX for the full tune so he must do something to the hammer mechanism if everyone is saying their BSAs are very noisy.

When cocking, both are smooth, I just prefer the BSA bolt action. The BSA cocks quicker and pushing forward is very quick and quiet. The action of pulling the side lever back and pushing forward it a bit slower and not as smooth. Don't get me wrong. I still think the HW100 magazine system is fantastic and the side lever system works a treat, great engineering. Personally I just prefer the bolt action of the BSA (at the moment anyway)

Sound of the hammer - BSA is a duller sound, the HW100 pings. I've seen it a few times on youtube when watching clips of Hw100s as well and read many a report on forums so I was expecting it. It's starting to get on my nerves a bit now so I'm definitely going to fit a new hammer and valve spring after I've removed the anti tamper. If that works, the will be the quieter gun on firing by far.

  7. Took the hw100 apart today. The previous owner said he hadn't done anything to it and seeing as it's a 2012 model, I thought I'd change all the seals. Wow these are easy to take apart and service. I upgrade the main inlet valve seal to a polyurethane one and replaced the barrel seal, internal valve seals and breech block seals. The reg seal looked good.

Shot a 14 shot mag with only a 4fps spread which I like and topped it up to 200 bar and all is seal tight.

Next I'll be replacing the hammer spring and valve spring to get rid of that ping sound on firing and removing the anti tamper.

  8. This happened Thursday night.

The night started off bad, dropped my rifle off the bed onto the floor before I left! My BSA scorpion was in its padded Bsa holdall but still I thought it might affect the zero and it did by about an inch up.

Then I took ages resetting the zero because the cattle in the fields seemed intrigued by the sound of the pellet hitting my cardboard target :-(

Next I kept spooking the rabbits, the floor was damp and my boots were squidging on the mud.

After an hour and a half of pissing around with the zero, avoiding cattle and then spooking all the bunnies, I thought I'd give it one last stalk to a rabbit I could see at the far end of the last field. I got to 40 yards and lay down to take the shot off of the bipod. As I looked down the pulsar challenger night vision monocular with the n1000 laser on the second lowest setting, and aimed for the killzone, but the rabbit spooked to the left. Oh no, I followed it and squeaked, no it wouldn't stop, but then I saw its mate feeding. At 40 yards I took aim, perfect headshot. Then scanning to the left, I saw the spooky rabbit which had stopped after hearing the sound of the 177 heavy jsb exact hitting home, allowing me to take the second shot very quickly afterwards. Giving enough holdover to account for the longer distance. I gave it the same holdover I would for a 45yard target and it hit the spot. As that pellet hit the spot, some glowing rabbit eyes appeared behind the fence 60 yards away and started running. I followed it left along the fence line and to my amazement, there was another rabbit my side of the fence, this time closer to 35 yards. I rested the crosshair just under the ear, pop down goes the third! Bear in mind these three were dropped within 30 seconds or so, couldn't believe how my night had turned around.

Up I got and shone my torch on the carnage before me. Bloody hell, I was astonished yet again that there was a little one literally feeding beside me the whole time which bolted to the fence line. I ran to 30 yards away, not expecting it to still be there, i turned on the night vision and there it was. I took a kneeling headshot and that one won't be troubling the farmer from now on.

So 4 rabbits in succession is my record and within a minute as well. Couldn't believe it.

  9. Here's the positives and negatives I've noticed with the HW100.

    Positives

Nice mag system - doesn't double load and 14 shots.

Feels nice, solid and robust with a nice finish.

    Smooth trigger action.

I like the balance - some people say it's too front heavy but I like it. I like the size and think it's very pointable.

    Very quiet with HW mod.

Looks quite easy to work on - I'm defo fitting a new valve and hammer spring and removing the anti tamper.

Only shot it over 25 yards but it seems damn accurate.

    Negatives

I don't like the side lever - the BSA bolt is so much better - quicker, smoother. I prefer it.

Despite being quiet, there is a slight hammer ping on firing - should be able to sort this out though.

The plastic trigger shoe! I hate it, don't like plastic parts - definitely getting a rowan engineering upgrade.

I think it will make a great summer time hunter. Very light weight and pointable so should be good for carrying around my permissions. All the negatives (except the side lever) I should be able to solve.

  10. O

Oh yes, sorry forgot u don't have the stock yet. The reason I asked was because before I got the regulator, I could compare a group from the t-10 to a springer and there wouldn't be much in it. However afterwards I took it to the range to try it out and got one hole groups, less than 5p in size. Found it very boring though to be honest but seeing as though I tend not to shoot targets I was very happy and obviously took a photo of the target. I showed it to my mate and he said "my HW100 can do better than that, pellet on pellet"It wasn't far off pellet on pellet anyway!! So I wondered if he may have just been exaggerating slightly!?

Even before the reg, your T10 should be producing tight groups. When unregged, did you note it's optimum pressure point over it's power curve? You might have also been using pellets it didn't like. Anyway glad it's shooting accuracy now. Regarding your mate's statement - as long as you're happy with its accuracy, that's the main thing. Ask him to have a go to see for yourself. My T10 has a 37 yards zero (using a hawke nighteater scope) which on x9 mag gives me a 1 mildot holdover at 47 yards. I've shot a 5p sized group at 47 yards before on a nice, still summers evening before I went after some rabbits. Mine's a 177. I was happy with that.
No mate, it wasn't the best. Might have just been the pellets but it was no where near as good as an s400 I used to have. With regards to the pressure, it doesn't have a guage so I'd never really know what pressure it's at. If I went out before it got the reg, I'd just put 180bar in just so it wasn't right up to max. Now I obviously don't need to worry about that and it gets 130bar and I just fill it roughly every 8/9 magazines.5p sized group at 47 yds, can't grumble at that pal!!!

Off the bipod mind and lasered the distance with the rangefinder. I normally do a quick zero check before I go off for the rabbits. One group at 37 yards to check zero. Next at 47 yards at one mil dot hold over to check for the affect of the wind.

Hw stock arrived today so when I get home from work I'll finally be able to put it together!

  12. I haven't tested the number of shots from the HW100K yet but from what I've been reading, the carbine versions produces between 45 & 50 shots in 177.

I'll do a test when the stock arrives. I plan to use it for rabbits during the day and will be fitting a mtc mamba light scope on top of it. I don't think I'll need more than 50 shots to be honest unless the rabbits start breeding like crazy on my permissions.

  13. Well not got the hw100 in a stock yet so can't really make a proper comparison. Will do when I manage to get it out shooting. My T10 doesn't fail me within 45 yards so as long as the hw100 can match that, I'll be happy.

    First impressions

The HW100 feels solid and looks fairly easy to work on as well which I like - llike to be able to service a rifle myself.

Power Consistency = HW100 slightly better. Emptied two 14 shots mags yesterday with a 4fps variation. That's the only testing I've done though. I've tested my T10 loads and usually only get at most a 7/8fps variation which is still great never noticeable out in the field. So not much in it.

Getting a 11.2fpe with the hw100 and 11.4 with the T10 with jsb heavy exacts (10.34gr) so happy with both those readings.

No. of shots = T10 better, I'm getting around 70. Haven't tested the Hw100 but its a carbine so looking at 45 shots so 3 mags really, still have to test it though.

Noise = Hw100 is a tiny bit quieter but only by a fraction, not going to be noticeable to rabbits.

Mag system = HW100 mag system is impressive and smooth. At the minute I prefer the bolt action of the BSA to the side lever mechanism, it feels more solid and I'm used to it. But until I use it regularly, that may change. Hw100 reloads smoother and quicker that's for sure. The new BSA mags have never failed me, love the bolt action but they can be double loaded (rarely happens) where as the HW100 can't.

Trigger - Hw100 is better, so so smooth and lovely. The rowan trigger on my T10 is great but I am definitely going to get on with the HW one.

There's not much in it at the moment but until I get it out in the field and test the accurately and handling. I'm excited about getting it out in the field.

  14. Didn't go out with the hw100, only have the action so far. Picked up action and stock for £470 posted. Carbine action in 177 flavour arrived yesterday special delivery and its shooting sweet. So smooth and quiet with hw mod. Shoots a v consistent 701fps with jsb heavies (11.2fpe). Kt stock hopefully arriving early next week. It's going to be my daytime setup.

Well after testing the hw action out, I grabbed my night time set up - the bsa scorpion 177 topped with the pulsar challenger and headed out. Took one rabbit at about 25yards, stalked it using a fence post as cover.2nd one was taken at nearer 45yards and using a watering basin for livestock as cover, lowest setting on the n1000 and sent the jsb heavy flying, striking it just behind the ear. Still love the t10.
