  1. I am selling my 6 month old .22 FN19. It has a beech right hand stock and the only marks on it are a little thinning of the blue where the scope mounts sat, otherwise totally as new having only fired about 800 shots in dry weather. It has properly fitted QD studs.

I also have a 3 litre 300bar bottle and valve for filling the rifle, which is as new as well. Test date 09/07

I'm looking for £300 the pair or a £210/£90 split if sold seperately.

If you interested please email me at satyruk@tiscali.co.uk

(I'm in East Sussex if that makes a difference)

Probably talking out my hat but will the bullet be spinning fast enough to stabilise? or do you have a faster twist rate on your barrel than a standard 700?

  3. I remember it well. Met loads of people (good for meeting nerdy / ugly girls too  )

Seems a bit naff now but it really was a different time back then.

  4. I think our gardens are often more like wild areas than farmed land and create corridors of green like hedgrows do.

While its true that land gets paved over I've also seen plenty of old woodland fall to be replaced with ploughed fields.

  5. When it went past a pound a litre then i knew it had broke a phycological ceiling and would just keep going.

It is pushing up inflation something chronic.

Can anybody understand how the government can say inflation is running below 3%, it's got to be at least 7%.

    :hmm:

Last I read they even included the offset of the dropping cost of DVDs :wallbash:

BWAHAHAHA when was the last time you brought enough DVDs (maybe £2 cheaper each) to offset the increase in car juice, leccy, gas, water and of course food

Last year the average real inflation for a 2 adult, 2 kid familly with a big mortgage and car hit 20+ % for a short peak. God knows what it is now.

25% of the world has runaway inflation if you believe the papers.

Fingers crossed for us in the UK but the shift of money seems to be from us into poorer countries. Screw everyone else to keep our quality of life? Create a new version of the East India Company?

  6. The price increases are not due to supply and demand at all. Its all down to 'Fund Managers' pouring money into oil and pushing prices up in a self fulfilling cycle. These are the aresholes who have created the sub prime credit crunch etc.

Why the governments of the world have not suspended their trading in crude is the real question. Perhaps the increased tax revenue is the reason?

  7. anyone heard of the hydrogen fuel cell ? IT WORKS! they've been bullshitting us for decades. you can run your motors on....................WATER! FACT! CHECK IT OUT ON YOU TUBE. my mates building one in his garage.

Hydrogen has a really poor energy density. Its not actually practical outside the imaginations of dreamers or devoted dabblers.

Best feed for a fuel cell - LPG which is a high density hydrocarbon. Same as petrol, made from crude like petrol so no benefit.

  8. Stayed at Alnmouth (Northumberland) for a few days and bought my first fishing rod EVER. Its a beachcaster combi 3 piece 12 ft and I got it from a fishing shop in Amble. The lady was very helpful ond knowlegable. Never got chance to use it but I will hopefully soon as I hope to get a few days at either Chapel or Ingolmels (spelling) near Skegness.

I am really looking forward to having a go.

Any tips for a beginner ??????????

    (longdogrunner thanks for the advice)

Good fresh bait, sharp hooks, dont get too obsessed with casting a long way.

Try to learn the best spots and part of tides from the locals but dont be afraid to try an unkown spot.

  9. I agree totally with the above as it is sound advice but what everyone is saying is you have got to be extra carefull when shooting in an enclosed surrounding because although you can see at ground level what's in the crosshairs and the backstops shooting into trees/bushes at elevated heights it very different. It's the "stray" pellets that do the damage if you are shooting into a tree line/hedgerow the skirts a 50 acre empty field sweet but if you are shooting into a tree line/hedgerow that follow's a public right of way or adjacent to other residential properties you are asking for a visit from dibble. I always try to avoid "urban shooting" where possible simply because I don't think it's 100% safe ( my opinion only ) and there's always the possability of that 1 stray pellet or ricchochet but it only takes 1 dose'nt it?????

    Stay safe and happy hunting

    Coney.

i have a pellet catcher for targets, but i was woundering if you can shoot quarry in your back garden legaly if it s safe

I don't think your actually allowed to shoot anything without reason, so as the land owner / tenant you would need to have some reason to 'cull the vermin' Damage to veg? Damage to house? Check out the general licence too.

  10. Hi Kathy

I'm not in a position to help being too far away, but I appreciate your stance on factory farming of meat vs wild as 50% of my family is vegitarian (none vegan tho)

You may find suspicion as some antis* apparently use the forum to cause trouble - I'm pretty new so I couldn't say.

You could try posting in General or Pest Control to increase the exposure of your ad.

Its also worth sticking around as there is a wealth of info about garden birds, fish and animal behaviour, that you won't find anywhere else. I only say that because I am humbled by the extent of the knowledge here and love to soak it up.

  11. Hi all, need help.

Just been given a contract to kill what seems like a few thousand rabbits on some playing fields next to a golf course that I already control rabbits on with a 10/22. Problem is that the playing fields are Council property and will only let us use air guns but, the catch is its all at around 100yd+ range. I have never used or owned air so what would you guys recommend.

    Cheers Hing.

I've no doubt that there are air rifles that can shoot that far, but to have any oomph left at that range you will need to be shooting solid bullet type pellets, and keeping them weighed, sized and accurate will need some effort and science. Certainly not like buying a brick of LR.

At high power levels its also worth bearing in mind how very few shots you will get between refills. You may be better to shoot from a linked bulk tank if your shooting from a fixed position on a bipod.

I would be interested to know how you get on, what you want to do is not impossible but quite unusual in the UK so advise and equipment will be thin on the ground.

and ask them who has a 453.

Might be worth asking here as well.....

    http://czowners.ipbfree.com/index.php?

Hopefully find a 453 somewhere but there are not many about as you have probably found, the 453 trigger is meant to be entirely different and I didn't know the user could disable the set function...

I know loads of 452 owners but no 453 yet (even though they have been available for at least 2 years).

I think the disabling is done by deliberate over-adjusting of one of the adjustment screws, the manual isn't too clear.

Good idea about asking the importer

set triggers can be good but more suited to centrefire rifles i think. as for quick shooting of rabbits a set trigger would be a pain in the ass i think. where the normal 452 trigger with brooks kit is a delight to use. i found the trigger ok on my cz 22lr but it was a little heavy and had creep. but once i fitted the kit i found the trigger a joy to use.

Its a single set, so you can just use the trigger as normal, and only set the set (if you know what I mean) when you can take longer over a shot.

Not sure its worth the extra money.

  13. went ahead today and bought myself a baikal mp153 semi auto shotgun today , so it should be up here soon anyway its been crimped to make is legal to hold on a SGC but is there any chance at a later date to remove the cartridge tube and install a non crimped version (5 shot) if i apply for the variation on my FAC , So is it at all possible to purchase baikal parts or will they be hesistant to supply me with a new cartridge tube??

    liam

I seem to remember being told that it was possible for a gunsmith to 'push' out the crimp with some sort of tool that was pulled through the tube on a threaded stud.

Could have been rubbish but it sounded feasible.

  14. I'm applying for a FAC and have been using a 452 in .22LR which is the rifle I was leaning towards getting. My only concern is the trigger, which as other posts here today have shown can be improved cheaply.

So the question is - is the adjustable and set trigger on the 453 worth it over the shim and spring job on a 452?

Anyone used them back to back?

Why do you have concerns about the 452 trigger, do YOU find it unsatisfactory or are you simply being swayed by certain opinions?

I have a 452 with the original trigger and I have no complaints, but I am going to invest the few quid to try the Brooks version (If I can get one anywhere) to see if it does make the difference people claim. The 453 Trigger is DIFFERENT and I hate set triggers, so your question is more than a little difficult to answer.

I'm not keen on the original trigger, and I've put enough bricks of ammo through it to get used to it. Still don't actually like it though as the creep and weight still intrude.

The 453 manual says that you can remove the set function which would leave an adjustable standard job. I have used set triggers on borrowed guns and having the option is nice

I was thinking the replacement trigger group route, then noticed the shim and spring bargain then finally saw the 453 was available so I'm exploring options. In order to access a 453 I would have to travel to find someone with one in stock so I was trying to get a feel for whether it was worth travelling.

  16. I wonder what stories this could tell ???

Loooks like it's been in the ground for some time don't ya think ??

If thats a Baikal as others have posted then it was dumped as a dangerous piece of crap.

I've only seen two in the field and both had a problem with accidental discharge on closing the action onto live cartridges.

I know a dozen owners will say how good they are, but from my perspective they are lethal and I wouldn't be suprised if its previous owner just smashed it over a fence post and threw it into a ditch - in the old post card style SGC days.

More than a dozen i'll think you'll find. As ive said before, mine is pushing 25 years old and has never put a foot wrong.

He would have sprained his wrist trying to break a Baikal on a fencepost!

Most are built like brick s**t houses. You must have just come across two bad ones. Baikal Record cartridges were absolutely lethal, often they would ball the shot under the pressure and fire what was in effect a slug and the noise with them was unbelievable.

    Regards

    SS

I appreciate that you have a good experience with them, which was why I posted that a dozen (meant to mean loads) would have flawless guns.

However to expand upon my experience - in many hundreds of sporting clay shoots (and assisting in the running of loads) I have only seen two accidental discarges. Both were Baikal S/S. And just how may of them are used on clay shoots compared to Baretta, Browing, Miroku, Rizzini, Fabarm, Lamber, whatever O/Us.

No the failure rate IMO is way over normal.

And it is easy to scrap a break action shotgun, I've dropped one off a moving vehicle and it was amazingly bent and busted.

  18. I want to get a belt. Sort that holds ones trousers up. I want it to be 2" wide. Made of tan coloured leather. Able to fit a 31" waist and ~ most importantly ~ able to take my own buckle. My buckle having a two inch slot and a bent peg to go through the hole at the other end. Ye know the thing.

I Don't want Gucci. I Don't want webbing. I Don't want imported, chinese shit. I don't want a huge f*cking Harley Davidson buckle attached. Coming with No Buckle would be ideal. Repeat: I have my own buckle.

Ye'd be amazed how hard such a simple thing can be to track down. Hit the Bay and there's all sorts, but. Ask Google and ye end up reading about some Dublin pub or the adventures of a man on Polling day :icon_eek:

Can anyone please simplify this for me? Who out there sells 2" wide, tan leather belts to which one can fit a ready slotted / looped buckle of their own?

    Thanks :)

First, kudos for the 31" waist. Not seen that for nearly 20 years :icon_redface:

But I think you've answered your own question, in our disposable world what you want just isn't being made in an Asian sweatshop so isn't available from fleabay or shops.

Custom made will be easier than scouring every last inch of the world / internet for a 2 inch belt.

  19. a relation of a friend turned up today with the barrel of his hw100 with 3 pellets jammed in it ,any ideas??

Yes, sell it to me for £50

If not heat it up until the pellets melt and pour them out. Then sell it to me for £5

  20. Yep, my 1yr old jack russel puppy was mown down on the main road out side my house.

Anyway the point of all this in depth story is that i asked who hit her, as it wasnt the driver who knocked on our door.... my neighbours had told him to leave the scene!

Anyway, i responded badly, grabbed my dog which she had been refusing to hand over

So they took charge of an accident scene which had nothing to do with them and perverted the outcome, and they attempted to abduct your dog which delayed the proper attention from a vet.

I would be talking to the cops. As far as I can see they are at least morally way over the line - all youv'e done is throw a few f**ks their way which surely is nothing compared to their actual involvement in an accident involving livestock and interfering with livestock. At least even the score on the cops records.

Failing that lots of plastic sheet, iron bar, freezer, wood chipper.
