Ok as some of you may have seen I’m after a Gundog this is not an instant buy so no particular rush I can wait to find the right breed of dog BUT
The wife doesn’t want a Spaniel or a retriever and neither of use want a Labrador, She mentioned a Red Setter but after reading some replies on another forum I’m not keen I have shown her a Clumber spaniel and she ok. The Size don’t bother me too much as we have a 35kg boxer and a sturdy staff at 20kg. But some people have said that a working clumber is hard to find
So what other choices do I have?
I wish to train or at least try to train it to flush birds, rabbits and retrieve
-
I know these dogs are used to flush rabbits and game birds but would it be possible to also train one to retrive as well?
The Mrs will not have a spaniel and neither of us want a lab, she mentioned a red setter but im not sure we both like beagles though

Hello I have 4 four ferrets that are kept in pairs pair 1 is a albino vescetimsed hob and a polecat jill he is a big lad and could maybe do with loesing a little weight but the jill is fine
the other pair is a castrated albino hob is perfect the other is a polcat jill but she is well FAT. but there is alwas a llittle dry food left when I feed these two they get lots of rabbit and whole cockerals about bantom size
how do i get these two to loose weight without affecting the other two?
would it work if i put the two fattys together?
the only reason there not all together is the two hobs hate each other and the jills hate each other but are all fine when out in the field
Also is there any way of getting them all to get on i have tryed the put them together and let them sort it out but they just don't seem too

im new to this game so this might sound stupid! but why shouldnt you ferret during the summer??? to many young rabits or what? i guess pregant rabits would be a problem too.
too many young about easy meal for the ferrets under ground with new litters ect
too much folage around some warrans
ferrets cope better with the cfold than they do the heat
All that said there are people that do it for a living that need to use them in the summer months

If anyone has a copy of the Deerquest cd i would very much like a copy. please pm me if you do
-
I found out today that my job will pay for 75%-
% of my dsc1 and dsc2. Also they have a lot of deer that needs to be controled. Last year they culled around 3000. Do you think i should go and book this course or do i need more time with my shotgun and rough shooting. Do i need a mentor is there any one with a dsc cd that i could borrow or get a copy off.
Ihave not had my SGC long but i grew up around shooting and hunting.

Hi everyone
well went out ferreing day 1st burrow nothing much at home just the one rabbit second burrow put my jill down nothing for ages then one bolts so we think she is still working any way after abot 45 minutes of nothing i try to find her with the mk1 and all i find is the collar so i wait and wait then think sod it i will put my hob down with a collar on thinking when he finds her eating he will push her off or i can locate him and her well he stops moving for about 10 minutes so i think this is it and i start digging he the pops his head up out another hole so again i put him bsck down and again in the same area he stops thats it im digging after awhile i reach the hole and put my arm in and feel a rabbit pull it out its dead but not chewed put my arm back in pull another out and then another both these to where alive and i put my arm back in and its a dead end.
So i try the same trick again but he is just going in one hole out another after abot 4 hours of her being down there with no sign i call it aday fill all the holes in but the one i put her down and leave a box there with a few rabbit kidneys, water & some hay in it when back about 3 hrs later still no sign put a little more food in there am going to go back tomorrow straigt after work
what do you think the chances are of me getting her back?????????????????????
oh end result was 1 lost ferret (my best) and 5 rabbits
whent for a walk
