  1. Hi Mark

Not visited here for a while now,

Just wondering what the TX is like compared to the 97 in 177?

Ive got my 97,80,and 56TH all tuned to where they are nice and am looking to get a TX as it's such a lovely gun and so easy to strip for tuning (although by most accounts it doesn't need tuning!)

Plus looks like a HC, what's your opinion on it against the standard length?

    Great Post as always!

Brilliant Robo, what calibre/ft lbs is it running?

    Hey

It's 177, self tuned, using its favourite pellet - jsb heavies 10.34 at a tad under 19ftlbs

one of the pests was a head shot at 70m, I use a homemade tripod made with three carbon arrow shafts, works great!

Not in any way a caliber question lads but rather a pellet weight question.

I`ve shot exclusively with the light weight JSB Exact Express 4.52, 7.87 g pellets for nearly 4 years now and can't see me changing much after the successful trips I,ve had.

My question is - do any of you lads hunt with the JSB Heavies  10.34 g in .177 cal ?

I was watching a Vermin Hunters t.v. video recently and I was very impressed with the wallop/ tissue damage these particular pellets gave from sub/12 rifles at a shorter 25/ 30 yds on squirrel.

    Hi Mark,

I use 10.34 jsb heavies in my 56TH, and my 97,

and more recently 10.34 Ultrashock in the 80, which it is very accurate with,

my guns are over 12 ftlbs though.

  4. Haven't been to one of my favourite shoots for a while, and was asked by the owners of the estate to start controlling the rabbit population once more, so having recently got the 56TH retuned and extremely accurate, it was up early and into it, these ranged from 25 to 66m with the majority 50ish.

The 56TH excels at long range work in the orchards...

You don't need a game license as there is none and it's not illegal to use a air rifle on hare.

You can't sell them at certain times of the year.

What is that hw80 pumping out mate?

I've fitted the ARH kit which is an all metal guide set up, to a very close tolerance, its smooth and easy to shoot, very short mild recoil, no buzz or twang whatsoever, and surprisingly output of 14 ftlbs in 177, as you can see from the pictures, thats enough.....

I had a Diana 52 in .22 many years ago, late 1980’s I think. Proper powerhouse spring rifle they were. They had a very weak mainspring fitted to keep the power down, such a large volume compression chamber on those guns.

Yes, I've recently adjusted the power of the 56TH to shoot jsb heavies at 875 /876 as per Hector Medina's advice (Diana tuning guru) and the accuracy is superb, around 1 ftlb knocked down

  7. The 97 was showing a little inconsistent on the chrono, so strip, inspect, fix,

juggled the piston washers and power washers to reduce recoil still further, seem to have hit a sweet spot, as its now not hold sensitive at all, and extremely accurate with ftt's at 14.6 ftlbs

so after a brief target session at home where one hole groups at 16 metres seemed easy went out early this morning with this result..... ☺

  8. Hey, yep I've used the porta aim for serious rabbiting, it's at its best if the grass is not too long, and if it is just find a slight hump and your away!

The only gun I've got that is a bit touchy, hit and miss on the porta aim is my HW80, which bounces a bit because of the recoil, but 97 is great, and the 56TH, obviously... ☺.

    you'll love it

Those Diana’s have had my eye for sometime now, and the only thing putting me is the sheer mass. It’s like 10lbs unscoped. I can image them being so accurate at silly distances too. Though you have dropped a bugs there, I just think there literally aimed at bench or posh paper punching. I don’t know where they’d sit on the HFT course either. Technically they’d be in with the PCP boys, but they aren’t as dead when shot as a PCP, so there’s a disadvantage there from the get go.

There is something about them though, just for that little bit different.

Yes exactly how it is for me, I shoot a blue laminate 97, a vorteked 80, and this big one, it IS heavy BUT! it's stock is so comfortable and balanced I can't stop myself from shouldering it every time I pass the tuning table, if it's resting on the tripod, it feels sort of gutless and weak to fire as the shot cycle is just about 95 + percent eaten up in the sliding sledge mechanism, but wow check the pallet back stop at 42 metres, 10.34 grain jsb heavies blasting straight through it, after it's recent overhaul and tune, it's cranking around 912/915 fps for 19+ ft lbs, and I managed three consecutive shots at a stainless penny washer nailed to a tree beyond 70m last week, and even at that range it put dents in the washer, which was not nailed flush against the tree but left loose so I could see through the scope when I hit it.

That's not bad power in my opinion for a 177 pellet,

The washer is on my keyring now. ☺

  10. Yes, I was shown it by the manager of a hunting and fishing store, was a trade in from an old guy who had never used it, its big and heavy, but reliably accurate at very long distances,

which is useful as Ive just picked up a permission on a private housing estate to lower the rabbit population, and as the rabbits are very alert and spook easily there a long range gun was what I needed, and it's doing the job nicely, I don't like pcps after owning one, and the recoiless action, with the power this is producing is awesome, It's zeroed for 62m!

  11. Out early at the weekend, spotted this one and took it cleanly with a brain shot aiming dead on, no holdover JSB Exact heavy @ 912fps (I'll let you work out the ft lbs, he he he) 70m!

Diana 56TH self tuned recoiless rabbit sniper.... ☺, recently acquired this gun and was going to sell it, then I shot some targets! it shoots under an inch groups at 75m with JSB's, so recon it's a keeper. ☺
