rob reynolds uk 3
seems like no one wants to answer this one so i will ,you can try to decoy them in to range or the best way if they are around the farm is lie in wait for them they may be around the feed bins ect , get your self in range and hide real well dont shoot one then show your self or they will be gone only pick up if theres none in sight .and the most important thing is get there very early well before the crow arive ,you will get a few hrs sport .. Guest Ditch_Shitter
Ye've got ye work cut out there alright, mate! This, I find, is the worst time of all for getting up with crows. Buggers are hyper sly and wary just now. I'm out with a bit more than an air rifle most days right now and I just don't get a chance of a shot To illustrate this, take yesterday as an example: I'd come along the road, looking down into the land basin and sat down behind a rock pile to have a break and a good scan. Presently, something caught my eye a good 250 yards out on a field. I thought it looked like a Hoodie. It seemed to have black and gray in there but ..... So, I thought I'd bang up the magnification on the scope and take a look through that. And even as I reached to pop the covers up " Pat's Pair ", as I now know these b*stards, took off and dodged behind a hedge before sneaking up the rise and into the tree cover along the bloody road! Now, they might have simply finished what they were doing and then shot off in an evasive fashion? They might Not have been watching me every f*cking move, and spotted the first non casual gesture I made? Ye Might try to convince me of that! And I'm willing to try a shot past the 100 yard mark and I'm not getting anything like the oppertunity. What chance does ye farmer think You'll have with an air rifle? Got any ferrets? I'd pop a ferret in a wire cage and leave him beneath a tall tree myself. Having sorted out the hide idea, as Rob suggests. They'd have a hell of a job ignoring a ferret. Bloody shame I have no ferrets myself! Quote Link to post
Hunting-top-shots 2
you should try and get hold of a decoy owl and put it in the window or an opening in the barn on the farm, get one with moving wings either by pulling on a string or using batteries. the crows will land in the trees nearby in sight of the owl, you can either sit in a hide or in the barn depending on your air rifle and the amount of trees. your need to open the windows or build the hide at least a week before you set up to shoot you could also cut up a plastic bag and hang that in the tree the flapping of the bag will attract the crows. the best decoy you can get is a dead crow hanging by a leg in the tree you need to brake the wings at the body so that they flap in the wind and have a crow caller ready, if a crow starts to come then 3 - 4 short short blows in the caller will get him interested. Happy hunting HTS Quote Link to post
greengrass180 0
A decoy would be ur best option i have a large decoy with the wings of the crow open and it draws the crows in because they want a closer look at this large crow. A white cat or a small white dog works a treat for the crows it drives them crazy they'll circle around over head. Quote Link to post
grasshopper 0
Crows...my arch nemasis They're tricky animals. If you get too close to them, they'll send up an alarm call and alert every creature in the neighbourhood! The best thing to do is like someone said earlier, get to a field where you know they feed really early before sun up, plant some decoys, get hidden and wait for them to land. Try to stay hidden as long as possible or as soon as they see you they'll never let you get hidden again. Good luck! Quote Link to post
