Depinging A Rifle Or Things That Should Not Work That Do!

Recommended Posts

OK so as some of you know I have been running in the Galatian 2 and the annoying thing is the 89 db of Cloiinngg you get on firing. Now reading up on the inter web I found that this was the shock of the hammer resonating the air tube. Sounds silly no? Surely just the hammer noise? But no, resonance you see, sympathetic frequencies amplified by the tube!

OK! What to do? The simplest fix is a bottle brush, such as the sort used for cleaning babies bottles, available from Wilkinsons for about a quid or from local independent stores for £1.50 (which is where my brush came from as you don't have to pay for fuel or for parking).

Then you follow these steps for the Galatian but I am reliably informed they work on all Hatsan PCP rifles, Webley Raider 10 shot too.

The principal works on Evanix and Air Arms stuff but I do not know how you get the air cylinder or valves off the cylinder off those guns, Ted Holdover even did his Edgun (but he used coiled Silicone Tubing).

1) Remove air cylinder from gun. This is very easy just turn anti clockwise.

2) De pressurise air cylinder, very important, you do not want to try and catch the valve with your teeth, it will be travelling a bit on the fast size. This is turn by turning the allen screw in the long brass end cap 5 or 6 times to the right then screwing the cap on the air tube. When all the air has gone remove cap.

3) Firmly grasping air cylinder use a 17mm spanner and turn the valve to the left, it unscrews easily surprisingly enough.

4) Buy a bottle brush for cleaning babies milk bottles, snip the handle off leaving 40-45mm of handle on the brush, using pliers turn the very end over to make a hook.

5) Insert halfway into air tube!

6) Put a smear of silicon grease on the air cylinder where the seal goes and do the valve back up!

7) Put refill cylinder to 200 bar.

8 ) Put air cylinder back in gun.

9) Try firing it and smirk like a demon!

The highly audible Cloinggg has gone, like really gone, all you hear is the hammer clack. I would not have thought that the brush would have done a thing, but for a £1.50 I was willing to give it a go! Such a simple modification has a dramatic result and has quietened the firing down to sub 40db which was background noise here!
