So you dont think i should try the tesco one?

Leon, it all depends up on:

What you want to do with the lamp.

What rifle you are using.

What quarry you are hunting.

What range you are hunting over.

What your budget is.

If you are lamping rabbits with an airgun, then your likely to be shooting at ranges of less than 30 yards.

If you are lamping rabbits with a .22rf, then your likely to be shooting at ranges of less than 50 yards.

If you are lamping foxes with a .243" then you are likely to be shooting at ranges in excess of 100 yards and will need to have clean and definite identification of the fox.

I'm guessing your going to be after rabbits, most likely with an airgun on foot. You could buy a lamp which will illuminate half of Wales, for sure it will look impressive and you might even have people stopping on the side of the road flashing funny lights and playing funny music in the hope of getting their first encounter BUT it will not put more rabbits in the bag. Everything for miles around will be spooked. Lamps are one of the bits of kit that (myself inc.) we tent to try and brag about, my lamp will shine for 10 miles, blind a rabbit with it's laser like beam etc etc. The truth is that most of our lamps are well over powered for rabbits. The Tesco torches do a grand job, trust me on that! No wires, no heavy batteries, it's nice and simple and quick. I'm guessing your going to be lamping alone (?), right try carrying a big old dry cell battery, rifle , ruck sack, ten dead rabbits and a partridge not in a tree! It's heavy work.

One thing I would point out is that a rifle mounted lamp is not the best for spotting rabbits no matter which lamp you get, you have to swing the rifle constantly to look for the rabbits eyes in the lamps beam. Once you get the knack it's not hard but it is hard on your arms and thus your shooting ability. You could of course have a second man holding the lamp but that has it's own draw backs, two people means twice the disruption!

The best solution is a head mounted lamps which will let you quickly find the rabbits, then switch to the scope mounted lamp when your in range.

However, if your driving the fields in a 90 or lamping foxes then the above is of no use at all.

have to say as previously mentioned the NIGHTSEARCHER lamps are seccond to none, mine has done me proud for the last 4 years....and is still on the original battery and bulb

last for 2-3 sessions on one charge, built to last ( turned out of a single piece of alluminium) but still light weight

not cheap, but you won't need another one

there is no substitute for a decent gun mounted lamp............the tesco torches are ok for ratting IMO but thats it.

that said, dont rule out deben or clulite they are very good aswell......and avoid logun lamps ( they really are crap)

cheers
