Trigger 26
When i was a young lad my father owned a lurcher whos quarry was both fur and feather day and night. she would retrieve anything asked of her. She would retrieve pheasants ducks and pigeons both in or out of the water. She would work the lamp and take all four legged quarry in the fur day or night and seemed to manage both fur and feather day or night with confidence. I was just wondering if any uses there lurchers for both for and feather these days or if my father just had a old school poachers lurcher that had to fill the pot. Has anyone else owned or seen lurchers who work fur and feather? Quote Link to post
foxfan 479
Yes they are about, or used to be. I've seen a couple, owned one that was on the way to being one, before she payed the ultimate price, whilst lamping. Mate of mine had a bitch like that, i remember once she coursed a hare through a hedge and out of sight, came back through the hedge some minutes later, with a mallard drake and retrieved it live to hand. I saw that bitch take a leveret out the squat in broad daylight. Dont think you can breed for them, they just happen every now and then, although collie blood helps. atb ff. Quote Link to post
ferreterni 29
I had a bull wheaten grey that after a few practice flushes, caught a nice cock pheasant. But sold her shortly after so don't now if she done more. Quote Link to post
