blackdug 90 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Share Posted February 22, 2009 my friend gave me 6 chickens last year (red ones) don,t know what type and i have since became addicted to the whole thing ,,for the last few months i went down to about 3 eggs a day but was not giving them light so i think i was doing alright ,now in the last few days it is 6 eggs a day so up to full production ,,i now want to get some more but don,t know were to get them or what type to get ,,i am looking for about 6 more good layers and about 20 meat birds any suggestions i am a hgv driver and get all over the place so any ideas would be welcomed .....thanks Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Get some more of the same, some free range farms sell them off ( OR GIVE THEM AWAY!)at 72 weeks ( having only laid one season) as the people they supply say the shell quality is poor from then on, as for meat birds, try some Cobb's, white birds, meat only. He delivers around the country based in Lincs. He does the Hubbard birds, cleaner and better tasting than the Cobb meat birds. Minimum order is 20, tell him Richiepolecat sent you his way.
