brno17 5
Hi all, just thought I would stick a post on about Christmas comp rifle that I won back in december on www.shootforum.com. I chose a 223 howa 1500 varmint and by feck it’s a shooter, certainly the most accurate rifle in my cabinet and as for the wildcat mod it’s the mutts nuts too very very quiet and more importantly you can strip it to clean the crap out of it. Anyway I shot the barrel in with the usual clean 1 shoot 1 for 5 rounds then shoot 3 clean etc. then went for a zero. Even with cheap american eagle ammo that I bought for shooting in I couldn’t believe the way this thing was grouping and as ive shot it more and settled into the trigger it can now put a 3 shot group into a 5p piece at 100yds every time if I do my bit. Been out crow bashing and had a couple of charlies with it but headed out for a look for a roe this morning. The weather was much milder than of late and on arriving at the ground spied two roe out on an open field next to a wood, on glassing them I spied another two in among some young trees, on stalking into them only one was a doe that fed into the treeline before I could get a shot and her young were two buck kids but the other one was a truly massive buck that I would think would be of medal quality but we’ll have to wait til april to see. Headed on along the top of a deep wooded gully and at the end of it I spied two doe kids so got the howa onto the sticks and took one with a neck shot at around 80yds. A big thanks again to Robbie, Kev and Andrew of Wildcat for running the comp. i know youve probably all seen a howa but here’s a pic of the rifle and the deer anyway. Atb Alan. Quote Link to post
