Dogs ~ What age do they Sexually mature?

As above, I've got a 5 - 6 Month old Pup and the Mother's just came on Heat.. Is there any chance they could accidentally mate? Defo don't want that!

FOUND this on the net, not sure how true it is but i would say yes he could mate her.

 

 

Male puppies will display mounting behavior at a very young age (3-4 weeks), but are not producing sperm. This puppy mounting behavior will often disappear in a short time and then reappear as the dog approaches puberty. Half of male dogs will display mounting behavior by 5½ months of age, and will become able to sire a litter around that age. Note that some male dogs may be able to sire a litter before 5 months of age - 5 months is the average.

Yes...he is more than capable of mating and producing at that age.

There is every chance that they would mate - if you let them. It's entirely up to you to keep them apart. Beware - she may be receptive at a different stage of her season than she was when you mated her, either earlier or later or she may be receptive at the same stage so don't take any chances.
