wildfowler4 0
Hi, I would recommend getting yourself a decent gundog training book. Once you and your dog have mastered the basic's you can then move on to the whistle etc Edited February 9, 2009 by wildfowler4 Quote Link to post
brianqandco 0
at what age is it best to train a dog to the whistle. i mean for gun dogs Start with the whistle when he is happy to do everything by voice and hand comands ie, walk to heel on and of the lead sit stay ect, then bring the whistle in slowly thats for the stop comand. for recall be carefull once you have him stoped walk out to him nine out of ten times give him plenty of praise then recall him once. you will not go wrong with a good book and a few dvds.. Don't cause confusion by trying to use a "stop" blast on the whistle. Time for that later. Get a acme 210 1/2 as the tone is best and just incorporate it slowly. As already suggested too, a good book and dvd will pay dividends, but if (and I am not being rude here) you don't know much about gundog training, look for a local gundog club. There may be a United Retriever Club branch nearby, or similar. Go along with your pup, just to watch and socialise initially. This will give you a good grounding in training the basic excercises. Take your time, and above all, enjoy the training and make sure the pup does too. Quote Link to post
