Your not going to beleive this!! After yesterdays episode(first post on here).. Went out looking on my new permission for mr .... Long story short, billy my big bullx jumped straight onto a barbed wire fence! I havent been as lucky, it nearly ripped his cock off. It opened up right at the side of it, no blood, just a massive hole! Just had 12 stitches put in him, and he is very sore!!! couldnt beleive it happened again...

Glad to hear your dogs gonna be ok mate, how lucky you are, listen to this yarn, Sunday before christmas went out for a dig complete with lurcher, approaching our first spot , the dog jumped a fence, only it was a double fence, just starting off from a straining post so going out at an angle.

The dog wasn't coursing anything, just jumped a bog standard fence, only landed on the barb on the other side and was hung up, I ran over to him and lifted him off (not an easy task with a caught up bull cross), but off he came, I noticed something under him and thought it might have been a flap of skin, I caught him up and had a look, I have never, in all my years with lurchers or terriers seen anything like , he must have cut his femural artery, there was a stream of blood about the width of your finger pouring, and I mean pouring out of him, like a hose pipe running.

I immedeately applied pressure to the wound by gripping it in my fist and imobilising the dog, If I could only stem the bleeding I thought and get him to the vehicle and then the vet.

As hard as I tried the blood kept pouring out between my fingers and I knew it was all up on my mate, within five minutes he was dead, bled to death, a beautifull bull cross, in his prime, I bred him, I owned and worked his parents , I trained him, He'd stop anything in its tracks that he was asked to do, yet bring a rabbitt back live to hand, fantastic with the kids and everything else. I buried him there. I dont know if I'm getting sentimental as I get older but I dont mind admitting it broke my heart. Who said lurcher and terrier men are "'ard as nails". I wasn't going to write anything about it to be honest but now i'm glad I have. Good luck to you all and have a happy new year. One thing I keep telling myself is, "You cant wrap working dogs up in cotton wool", but boy is he missed. Be lucky.

Just because a man (or women!!) works his dogs, does not mean he has to have a heart of stone, compassion is what makes us human, no shame in admitting it broke your heart, you would not be normal if an incident like that did not tear you to bits emotionally.

Barbed wire is lethal, many people do not give it a second thought but then they do not own dogs that can run at high speed.

Sorry to hear about peoples barbed wire stories and losses :(

Ow that looks so painful, I bet she screamed when she did that, and gave you a heart attack, dogs seem to recover a lot faster then people do.
