Brimmer 220
Not a gun man, don't know whether that would spoil a gun dog taking it rabbiting, but I used to use a mates yellow lab years ago on rock piles for marking, pinpoint accuracy with that snout! Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
Good answers, all my lurchers mark, the best being my beddywhippetxcolliegrey. My beddywhippetxsaluki works the nets unreal, never stands on them, or distrubs them. and gets 99 % of all bolting rabbits... Even my bulls are good markers... Quote Link to post

j davies 8
those that take a dog ferreting, how do you encourage/train it to mark holes? hi i got a 3 year old cocker dog and from the age of 6 months took him ferreting with me the first season all my mates did was complain about him ripping nets want let the ferret out the holes and things like that then he must have thought if i sit here and wait one rabbit wil come out lol now he is one of the best dogs i ever had marks holes even the one he marks is the one the first rabbit comes out he sits there lets the ferret do the work. the ferret i got even comes out and goes back in here box most of the time all it take is time its better to lose one year learning your dog then you get 10 good years out of him or you can go the ohter way and have 10 bad years with him os worse still leave your dog at home Quote Link to post

donk 12
My beddy x used to be a pain when she was young, but they sharp learn and the more they do it the better they get. Wouldnt think it matters what kind of dog is used? All dogs can mark to some extent. Not sure who it was,but someone on moochers once told me "watch your young dog, learn it stuff, but also be taught by your dog, learn to understand why it does certain things and your dog will help you become a good dogman" That was about 7 years ago,and ive never forgot that piece of advice, and its true,as a novice ive learnt how to read my dogs by watching them.
