Guest air gunner
yea no i dident mean it like that. but you've got it thats what i meant how far is your gun in range? Quote Link to post
condomjohn 0
with a springer 30 - 40 no more probably, depends on calibre too though. With a pcp i have shot rabbits at 60 yards easily and even dropped one through the head at 72 yards, i wouldn't recommend these type of shots all the time though. If you are wanting to take your shooting further in range practice a lot on targets, apples are good if you can get them at the rough size of a rabbits head, they provide a 3d target allowing you to adjust better when shooting in the filed compared to paper targets. Just go with what you feel comfortable with. If you think you cant kill it don't shoot at it basically. Quote Link to post
fin and fur 2
I think it will depend on many factors as to what distance a rabbit could reasonably be shot with pellet choice being an important one a pellet with good aerodynamic properties will hold a greater velocity and therefore more of its initial muzzle energy for longer than a pellet with a poor aerodynamic profile so pellet profile will play a factor, as will weight of pellet, with a heavier pellet being in the kill zone (aiming point) for a shorter distance than a lighter pellet therefore range estimation will be more critical with nheavier pellets at long distances as mentioned in previous posts to this thread the skills of the shooter will also play a major part in accuracy of shot placement at long ranges whilst distance and balistic properties are both interesting points i feel it is a major part of the shooters basic 'country craft' skills to get within a range that will kill his quarry cleanly, for me personally this would mean getting to within 30yds of a rabbit before taking a shot, although i fully accept that more skilled hunters will have confidence in shooting at far greater distances Quote Link to post
Guest air gunner
Yep i prefer to get close so that the quarry dies quickly and humainly. so 25yrds max for me. but interesting that we could kill at quite long distances. cheers Quote Link to post
BIGPETE 0
whats the longest shot you can drop a rabbit at with a springer consistantly? say for example a "stock" supersport. When you can put just about all your shots in 1 inch group regardless of the range, then have a crack at a bunny at that range! A .22 at 12ft/lb will have plenty enough power/energy left at 30-35 yds to do the job humanely but accuracy is the key and much beyond that range with a springer and you are risking wounding the bunny. Guest air gunner
I can place a shot in 1" circle at 30yrds no problem. and yep sure they are powefull at that range. My Bsa supersport has no problems accuracy wise with a 40yrd range which bye the way "BSA" i am very happy with. but you never know out in the field what will hapen. But i also like to get close just for the sake of the stalk. although next time when im out if there are a few out then i will get close to the first one and take the next ones in range up to 40yrds from the comfort of my position. I have just got the hang of zeroing so my gun is zeroed whenever out. and im slowly starting to increase my target distance. it is now at 35yrds as a general distance which i am really comfortable with at sitting and 30yrds for standing.
