pic of my new zealand salmon

Recommended Posts

this pic was taken in 2001,was taken for the local newspaper story as follows.

i was out in new zealand shearing sheep and as we worked hard we also played hard i loved been up to no good so often on a night me and a cpl of local fellas would go spearing fish, its illegal of course but bloody good fun,we just used a eel spear head attatched to a broomhandle.we had some noights where we had got nearly 50 trout mainly brownys, this night i went on my own as i often did,it was a full moon so was like daylight really. the river was the ashburton river and flowed over mainly small rocks ect.. i was wandering about as usual with my torch but hadnt seen anything when out of the corner of my eye i saw something white jump up.. i turned and stared into the darkness of the river and then there it was again,, im not lying when i say i thought it was a wounded seagull diving ,,i started to wade out into the river to between knee and waist height searching with my torch to hopefully get this pesky gull,, i couldnt belive my eyes when i saw her in front of me.. i managed to spear her just right and threw onto the shaw,,, took it strait round to my mates and woke him up it was about 2am but hell was i exited,,, we couldnt decide if it was a salmon or a trout as they get that big too, next day i took it to the local tackle shop,he cut it behind its head to see what colour the flesh was and counted its finns and decided it was a salmon,,i said i had caught it with a spinner hahhaaha.. next thing i know the paper was involved as it was the biggest fish to be caught in the river for 25 years,i even made front page hahahaha she weighed just over 25 pounds guts out..

i have a better pic somewhere and il put it on when i find it as this is taken with my phone of the one on the wall
