Think of the obvious,,, ;)

Dont use fenns,, ;)

ONLY USE FENNS ON HEDGE ROWS AND WALLS AWAY FROM WOODED AREAS WERE THE REDS ARE IF YOU HAVE TO TRAP WOODLAND USE CAGE TRAPS THEN YOU CAN RELEASE ANY REDS YOU MAY CATCH , CULL THE GREY AS THAT SQIRRELL POX WILL WIPE OUT THE RED AND THE GREY CARRIES IT AND SHOWS NO VISABLE SIGHNS , Edited by blackntan

Just wondering in the areas that have red squirrels how would you keep them out from going into a fenn trap if they are set for a grey tree rat?

You cant, well not 100%, but ive been trapping around them for years and only ever caught 1 by accident, they are not as likely to go into a tunnel as a grey is, and the one I got was out on the fell in a rail trap(fenn trap on plank over burn). If your setting traps around feeders etc you would have to be very careful, live catch traps probably the best choise.

i agree the red just does not seem as agresive in its feeding habits, i had a red in a feed shed once let it out never came back , but them greys will work out how to get in :icon_eek:
