glass22 0
Hi. I have about 7 moles(guessing) in my 2 acer field I have caught 4 but I'm struggling to get the last few they keep setting the traps off without dieing. I'm using the tunnel trap and wondered if anyone had any pointers to help me finish the job off! Thanks Glass. Quote Link to post

I'm using the tunnel trap and wondered if anyone had any pointers to help me finish the job off! Thanks Glass. Most places I've done, the moles have permanent runs round the field edges. They work out from there into the field. I tend to set the traps between the last two "newest" heaps. I try to cut the hole exact length of the trap and then cover the trap with loose earth from a heap. You can pinch a bit of earth onto the triggers. Squeezed on like a thick £2 coin, or you can fill the hole with loose earth from the heap "no stones" and gently work your trap into it. Most important, though to just keep at it, as weather and other things can affect catch rates. NB! I am an amateur, who has in the distant past, worked on a semi-pro basis. Don't expect the pro pesties on here to give away their hard won secrets. On the other hand you could call one in, then the job would be over in no time. Good luck. Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Are they bunging up the traps or just setting them off? (They can get quite good once they know what the game is!) Tweak your traps so they are set fine and will trigger easy, Make sure they are free from human smells, Set them in runs free from loose spoil, And maybee smear the inside of the trap with damp soil to mask the metal. You are trying to create as natural as possible, the tunnel they use, any deviation will soon be picked up by the mole, lets us know how you get on. Quote Link to post
