Guest JohnGalway
Went out for a quick lamp in a different spot to see what was about. Slowly crested a hill, bright skies gone here tonight due to the heavy rain clouds, and I spied a sneaky orange eye wandering along a hillock. He was about to go through a little valley and behind another larger hill where the ground would have been too difficult for me to get a shot off. So I wander down a ways towards him quietly as a bull in the proverbial china shop. I get the bipod set up and the caller out. Stick on the rabbit squeal, a bit higher than I wanted to but am committed now so let's see what happens. Immediately my fox raises his head and sprints to wind me. Fine, it's what I want (to a point) as there's a clear spot near some rocks I can knock him over in. So I give him a shout when he's in the middle of it and he stops near the rocks, I just have the crosshairs on him when what happens? A feckin sheep has a go at him Between me shouting and the homocidal maniac sheep my fox decides to head for a better postcode Decide against shooting the sheep and move on. Am wandering along by a little stream, wind is well up and either the rain or a heavy shower isn't far away now. I'm scanning around with the lamp and hit a patch of high grass with another pair of eyes in it. As soon as the light hits this customer he's away like a rocket. Tried a call but no joy. He's obviously seen this trick before Rain started to bucket it down then so I headed back to the car. Considering I'd not even seen a set of eyes in the last three outings I was actually quiet pleased. Thought the red fellas had gone extinct around here for a while there. Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
Never extinct the critters John. Cold and Wet now, looking for things to nibble as things are getting more scarce. Might have a few more now, oh well .223 not redundant just yet!! SS Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
It was nice to see them all the same. Forgot how fast the little buggers are when they turn on the speed! Still, to only spot two in four outings I'll be taking it much easier this winter I think. Plans in the works for corvids... Quote Link to post
