adskibullus 0
im new to hunting and ive got an 11 month old mastiff x lurcher and i take him out everyday to the local stables to go rabbitting. hes not caught anything yet but hes came very close. the paddocks are surrounded by wood land and are crawling with rabbits but they tend to hang around the hedge line. my boys quite quick but as soon as hes about to get them they scarper into the bushes. the dog follows but the bushes are so thick that he always loses them or he flushes them out of the other side but cant get through quick enought to get the fuckers some people have told me that ill never catch a rabbit with a mastiff cross but im positive that i will but i think that i need to change my tactics. down the stables there are a few jack russels owned by some of the girls there but there all faggot ones and show no interest in the rabbits. but i was thinking that i know a few people with patterdale terriers and if i could use them to flush out the rabbits from the hedges would my dog would have more chances of catching them? also what time of day to the rabbits come out to play in the open field? i my boy stalks them and can get quite close to them but cos there near the hedge line they always escape. any tips would be much appreiared thanks Quote Link to post

prohunter 0
go on a night when there is no light and a windy to lamp the field. hopefully they will be further away from the hedges and you will get on to one. atb Quote Link to post
hagar 5
Just keep at it catch or not if its a laugh its worth it a good bushin dog would help no end and lamping will improove your chances as for being to big it probably is for serious work but will bring you plenty of fun, a friend of mine owns a bulldog bitch that weighs 80lb fit its the one on my left side in my avatar and it catches the odd bunny now n then mostly sitters n those bolted out of bushes n hedgerows admittedly Quote Link to post
