Terrier x ????

Now before anyone has a dig at me about this i dont own any dogs and i know even less when it comes to terriers but today my mate asked me to go with him to a local Dog rescue centre to see if he could pick up a dog for himself he isnt into hunting so he wasnt trying to get anythin on the cheap other than a dog for himself and family....anyway he found a little pup 9wks old ....it said on the description it was a terrier x????? ....unfortunately i didnt get a picture but the puppy looked like a collie around the face or as we were told after more questions , they think possibly part german shephard ...now is this possible .... certainly a collie could have caught the mother but a german shephard ??.........
