Guest Champ606
Hello Guys! My Lurcher is 95% of the time very obedient and whenI say no she listens and is very well trained by SKinnyRat who I had her off, but we where out walking last night and she bolted after some rabbits which is fine, then a muntjac deer came shooting out of the trees with my bitch hot on its tail. 30 seconds later she had caught it and retrieved it to me. I know a lot of you guys would be very very happy with that but where we were walking this is Illegal. I would like to do some command training with her and get it sorted so that everytime i say No or Stay she listens. I have spoken to a few people and had a few ideas of either a muzzle or shock collar to get her obedience where it needs to be. Any advice? Quote Link to post
swamper 11
obedience where it needs to be is were id start to look....but to be honest my lurcher can be called off but the long dog...not a cat in hells chance. the only thing i would recommend is that you keep it on a lead when in areas that might get you in trouble until you get its obedience sorted out .if you start shocking a dog for doing its job...then its going to stop doing its job when you need it to Quote Link to post
dogman89 0
i think a dog that comes back when called when its chasing big game, truely isnt a game dog. id just be happy my dog could take a deer. as your dog had probably never chased a deer before it was probably so pumped with adrenline it was blocking out your calls. johnk 0
i think if you started using a shock collar on your dog for chasing deerif you did want it to hunt big stuff the dog wouldnt be sure if it was to course it or not, might mess up your dogs head.keep the dog on a lead on dodgy ground and let the dog do what it was bred for Quote Link to post
Guest Champ606
THanks for the advice guys, I wil drop her onto the lead for a couple of weeks and get her back to where she needs to be, I think your right about being pumped she blocked my calls, she is also at the end of being on heat which may also have had an effect.
