sorry but got to disagree with that statement about harrises main quarry are rabbit harris will take most things i had a female that would take rabbit phezzie hare crows , she even took a wood pigeon and wood cock so got to disagree the bird will only hunt what you teach it 2 hunt

Spot on! A fit motivated Harris is deadly; I'm flying mine at 3oz over her usual hunting weight. Why? Very simple, everything she catches is hers. I only look for one kill per outing and she is well aware that if she makes a kill then the rewards are huge. Motivation, fitness and confidence in a Harris' makes for a bird that can give a Gos, albeit without the speed, a run for its money with a lot less potential trouble! Goshawks don't think, they just react; a Harris' will anticipate, plan and react. Can a Gos think about the future! No. I've seen my Harris' anticipate where the quarry will be and get herself in the best place to catch it.

A Gos just reacts to a given situation; a Harris' will think its way around a problem. A Gos, because of its nature, will fly fast and furious: a Harris' will anticipate and plan ahead. A fit experienced Harris' is very, very effective. I should know, as I've got one. If you are looking for multiple kills then get a shotgun; good flights are more important than actually taking game. My birds know that what they catch is theirs, one kill per outing is all we look for: makes for highly motivated birds!

seems like a no win situation mate, i've read endless threads on the IFF site of people slagging off others for wanting to ditch their HH after a season or two to go for a Gos or something different. Unfortunately some of us are not in the position to have one or two of each. You are hardly a newbie if you have flown them for a couple of years with others and have people at hand to help you out. The only thing of concern is like the HH, say the Gos don't float your boat? then whats gonna happen....

The only reason a HH doesnt "float my boat" is due to there main quarry being rabbit, as i said ive seen thousands of rabbits taken with a lurcher and my main interest is featherd quarry, hence why i am opting for a Gos, im wanting to fly it at featherd game.

alright buddy, you could always have got yourself a small male harris brilliant fun on feather and only half the cost of a gos.not as temperamental or susceptible to feather damage or health issues for that matter.
