Bad night on the lamps

Recommended Posts

Me and a mate went out on the lamp last night over some newly cut fields took the rifle as the landowners chicken and turkeys have been battered by the foxes. Took the pup out as i usually do for training looking for the odd rabbit for him to run on. No rabbits about no foxes about just several badgers...! And thats where the night went bad. lamped the field yet another badger just 20 yards out, the pup alert to it ripped the lead out my hand and straight for it. knowing full well the pup wouldnt take the beast he continued to run along side it with lead still attached jumping over it puppyish behavour..! i turned the lamp off and turned away whistling for the dog to return waiting for the badger to savage my dog to my suprise there was no cry frommy dog and he came bounding down the bank to me. Knowing how aggresive they can be i thought it was the end for little rip luckily not....!

i have found exactly the same thing the last few nights out.training the pup and giving the greyhound the odd outing for ferret food.more badgers than i have seen for a long long time.the pup even came nose to nose with one on investigating a hedge row luckily only a young one and they both backed off.dread to think what could have happend.

i know what your saying mate, there are badgers now in places i can never remember them being, having lived in the area all my life and im not just talking a few.a five minuite walk into the woods and its badger city and guaranteed you see at least 1 or 2 a week run over round the lanes.

This time last year on the same land i saw non out last night saw 5 ov them it is getting bad. luckily these badgers dont mind my pup jumping all over them trying to play...!

and theirs that understandable with the pup could of been a different situation.luckiley i wasnt and iam glad my little run in wasnt as i had my greyhound of lead and she would go in without a second thought.and in the end your training that pup to be a trained killing machine so the next time when its an adult could be a totally different story.

and to me their should be controll of some type over these animals the fox now makes home above ground in the city .my mate in a big city of leeds has never seen as many and has even found them bedding up in neighbours garden so whats happening is the goverment just letting them take over the country ?

what do you think the outcome wouldve bin if it had been an older trained lamping dog,i think even a bull x would have its work cut out.
