rolly 0
I say giver a go! If she wants, she will. If she don't, she won't. Head size don't matter as much as heart size. Good luck. Quote Link to post
jacko 1
I AGREE WITH THE LAST COUPLE OF POSTS (BORDER BOY AND ROLLY) BUT I MUST ADMIT 'TOP TERRIERMAN' HAS GOT IT SPOT ON. SHE'S WITH ME 24 HOURS A DAY EXCEPT FOR WHEN AM IN SCHOOL AND I'D MISS HER BADLY IF ANYTHING HAPPENED TO HER. ITS ALRIGHT READING ALL THE BOOKS AND GOING ON THE HUNTING WEBSITES BUT YOU'VE GOT TO BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST WHEN YOU ENTER YOUR DOG. I THINK A GOOD COMPRAMISE WOULD BE TO GET MYSELF OUT WITH SOME LADS THIS SEASON (WHICH HOPEFULLY I'LL GET SORTED) AND WATCH HOW THEIR DOGS WORK TO GROUND. IF IT'S NOT OR ME THEN THERES ALWAYS RATS ISN'T THERE. EVEN IF I DON'T WORK HER MYSELF, I STILL LOVE TO READ THE POSTS ON HERE AND I'VE ALWAYS GOT TIME FOR A DECENT DIGGING DOG IN THE FUTURE. THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES, JACKO. Quote Link to post

moggs 18
I had a little jack bitch who i lost last year after a dig to a fox. She was a small bith with a small head bolted most of the time for me but when she had bottled them up she'd never give an inch. she had too much heart for her size, always had nasty damage to her top pallet(jaw), got snapped on the dig i lost her. I prefer a dog with a big head same as most, the ones with little heads if they want to work they will, and their head size wont bother them, so it shouldnt bother you. good luck with her mate and give her a go. Bona 0
I personally like the smaller dog because they can fit into tighter places saves time where a normal dog would have to dig on, aslong as the dog has the heart to stick its her quarry and not too afraid to take some stick it should do the job, whether the fox bolts or you have to dig. I think its the same with terriers as lurchers, which would you prefer as a foxing lurcher a big bullx or a whippetx if they could both do the job most of you would say the bullx i just gives piece of mind and the confidence you need to do the job and not worry. I wouldn't let the dog see a fox untill your confident enough to take it out, i can only make things worse if your worrying while your dogs working. Little dogs are always handy to have around if you want to get to them foxes in a tight space just my thought Quote Link to post
pbrookes 450
had 2 dogs that stand out. one bitch was tall maybe 15 inches but was narrow, had stick thin legs and a very snipey had. lookd like a whippet with a docked tail but that bitch killed loads of foxes.. took hell of a lot of punishment but never once spewed it. also had a bitch out of my old dog simon {son of goulds stormer) that was maybe 10" and about 12lbs and though never had the knack or strength to kill a fox dug hundreds with her, she also had a lot of stick, it was in her breeding to go forward all the time but always flw to ground screaming to get there. think it is down to the dog at the end of the day. seen big bully headed dogs that could not finish a fox but came out looking like they had done 10 rounds with tyson. only by trying her and digging regularly with her will you find out mate.
