checking rabbit snares

It all depends on what catching the rabbits means to you........are you catching to sell, or for your own consumption, for ferret food etc.

If you are snaring for pest control reasons then if Charlie avails himself of the odd bunny from the wires then in my books it's no big deal..........it still means i have one less rabbit to deal with.......and i am still doing what i am paid to do which is clear the rabbits. On some of my contracts i leave all the foxes alone as they are helping me with my rabbit clearance so to speak.

If, on the other hand, I had a large rabbit order to fulfil then i would be looking to intercept old Charlie with the odd wire or two at every opportunity.

In Professional rabbit snaring it is ok to check the wires up to and including dusk sort of time..........after that leave the wires to do there job until first light........the rabbits need to be left alone and not disturbed after dark for the wires to do their job. All you are doing by disturbing the rabbits after dark is make them more wary and reluctant to feed far from the buries........which doesn't bode well for a heavy catch.

Rolfe.

thank you rolfe for the info. it sounds about right to me. thankyou
