Its just the same as making a purse net - well, thats how I make mine, but you just keep going. When Ive done 18 meshes I put a ring on the 16th mesh and attatch that to the hook and knit from there (I learned that the hard way mind as I kept going until I was nearly out of the room and the tension was all wrong)As for getting the bagging right - if you are intending to make a 25 yard net then make it 50 yards long with 25 yards of top and bottom lines. Mind you Im quite new at making nets, Im sure Mole catcher or someone else of that calibre will advise you better Good luck. Quote Link to post
R_Oldroyd 17
If you are going to make a longnet the first mistake many make is too many meshes. Longnets are only on the whole less mess wide. 12 to 13 meshes is the norm depending on the mesh size you use. I have not bothered to mention salvages before anyone jumps on board. There are loads off threads on here telling you this. If you make them the same width as a purse net they will be too deep and heavy to carry and take so long to make. I do make ditch nets @ 18 meshes wide but they are usually 12 yd tops and they are an arse to uses because they are so deep regards Roger Edited May 29, 2008 by R_Oldroyd Quote Link to post
