Two ducklings to hand rear

Recommended Posts

i had to take up the chicks hatching yesterday because ants were attacking them :p i wonder if i can let them all hatch in safety then give them back to their mother?

i left the eggs in the nest that didnt have a crack in them, but took up the ones where their bills were poking through. i'm sure its a horrible way to die, being eaten alive by ants.... have to locate that ant bed and kill the b*****ds....

That sounds horrid... how bout making a trap for them, and putting near to the hatching duck egg's.... My nan used to use a part jar of honey (I think)... watered down slightly so they drown when they go in. Put the lid on but make a couple of holes in it. I can remember these ghastly looking jar's of dead ants being dotted about the house. They lived in a really old cob cottage, and the ants lived in the walls... it was quite usual to see a line of trooping ants walking up and over the worktop on thier way to the fruit bowl! Urgh!

thats not a bad idea actually. its better than using poison at least!

some people swear by pouring instant grits all around the bed... but i dont eat grits. i hate grits. lol you may not know what a grit is anyway

regardless of that, i have 9 ducklings(one still hatching right now), only lost one so thats not bad. that gives me a total of twenty ducks on my property (thats if everyone in this batch survives to be an adult)

lol i think i'm done hatching and raising ducks for a while. i havent even counted how many chicks we have on the ground!
