SportingShooter 0
The preesure of a shotgun cartridge differs greatly from cartridge to cartridge, even the same brand and make cartridge can differ each time. It depends on the following, Gauge, length of cartridge, primer type, type of powder, how much powder, how much shot, fibre or plastic wad and what type of closure it has. So quite a lot of variables. You can find out more by looking at the CIP website which deals with all the proofing in the UK and much of Europe. Regards SS Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
ss06 thanks for your reply what does my mark kg 1.360 mean in relation to proof pressure being measured in psi values.I mean is it 1360 psi for example. It means the amount of pressure per square centimetre. PSI and KG/Cm2 dont mix they are imperial and metric. 1360 KG/Cm2 works out to around 20,000 PSI. This is known as the service pressure, what the proof house expects cartridges to produce when out in the field. The proof test is considerably higher pressure to account for any rise in pressure and so the barrels dont burst. SS Quote Link to post
