Guest rossi
well im up for a rescue in my area......i no how it feels when your dogs lost Quote Link to post
nuv 2
. so to me you have got to do your best for your terriers some do some dont,//// i know you should,nt have more than 1 to ground but it was just a sunday mooch about, and maybe i should,nt of put my bitch in, but you live and learn .... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ive attended a couple of rescues and your description of entering more than one terrier is quite typical( and perhaps creates problems),and quite a lot of the time buy those who should know better,as long as lessons are learnt its not all in vain. A bloke I know generaly wouldnt attempt a rescue for atleast 24 hours believing a dog should stay that long anyway a lot of people panic when the dog doesnt surface after a few hours only for the dog to walk out unaided a few hours later as the calvary arrive. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Personally, I believe it depends on the individual terrier and its owners understanding of it...bollocked if I'd wait 24 hours...what do you do, sit next to the earth and not dig for a whole day...? Surely the dog should have been dug by then... At what point does the dig become a rescue? At what point does this thread become bollocks...now I think... Quote Link to post

Guest Fell & Moorland WTC SW area
could we not get some sort of list on here where we can all contact lads and lasses in our areas who are willing to help on a rescue.saying that if you put a post up on here im sure their would be plenty of help straight away.if everyone in this country were as decent as people involved in our type of activities then this country would not be in the state it is in.f##k the ban . keep on huntin <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wondered if this Post would go this way. Why doesn't everybody just join their area Fell and Moorland. This is SPECIFICALLY why the Club was formed back in the 60's! RESCUES! For the price of 2 Packs of Cigarettes your Dog can have whatever Plant is needed and as many people as required to Rescue it. By joining your own area of the F&M you have guys local(ish) to you, and there is also the possible benefit of some experience of the Earth you are at. There are also a few other good Terrier and Lurcher Clubs up and down the Country, join them! Quote Link to post

You didn't answer the question though matey...you wait 24hrs before you instigate a rescue...? You happy with that then...? Nice... That just about confirms it matey. Quote Link to post

Kane 2
There are some around that will still put a terrier to ground in undigable places (rock piles etc) even in diggable places there are a lot of unnecessary call outs where people panic after a dog doesnt show or they cant get a mark, only for the terrier to walk out a few hours later. In most circumstances I cant see why a wait of 24 hours before getting on the phone would be unreasonable. You can wait around for 24 hours if you like or you can do it in shifts or you can block the holes in with sticks ,rubble etc leaving a jacket inside the entrance. Might be bollocks to some but perhaps others might have experianced it. Quote Link to post
Bantam cock 1
That's bollocks really...I tried to join years ago and was told my 'area' didn't have a rep. I don't know who told you that mate , Ive got members who live miles from me as there is "No Area " where they live. If one of them has a dog stuck I'll be there and I think I speak for all the reps and members of our fine club when I say that. Quote Link to post
nuv 2
I'll tell you who told me, Cheeseman who was the terrierman for the Enfield Chace and, I believe, the acting/past/nearest area rep. I spoke also to Ray (Cutler?)whatsisname the fellow down in the west country who's chairman or something...I think he's a terrieman for a hunt down there. Is that okay. ? Quote Link to post
nuv 2
[bANNED TEXT] so cheese man said you cant join as there is no area rep??is that [bANNED TEXT] your saying Nuv?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I tell no lies...he didn't say I couldn't join but had no interest at all...very unhelpful. Apparently there was a vacancy at the time...eight years or so ago...I spoke to Cheeseman and he told me he had left or retired or wasn't the rep or something. I did join but Ray Cutler sorted it for me...he's in your neck of the woods I think. They did a big rescue of my mate's dog years ago at Ugley...a different region though...Chicken Paul's mob I believe. Quote Link to post

Nuv-AT what point do I mention leaving the dog for 24 hours. The call was made as soon as I realised I could be in trouble and that was when the dog disappeared into an unknown goil, which at one point in its length was an estimated 30m below ground[if it ran straight to the lake] Wouldnt wish it on anyone mate,.You also asked at what point does a dig turn into a rescue.I would say that when all those present at the time have exausted all avenues with the kit available and still not found the dog then its time to call it a rescue?
