I went out the back about 8pm, and there was a nice breeze blowing, so I phoned a mate up, and was on the way round to his house with the old dog in no time. He hasn't got a dog at the moment, so he borrowed a dog off a mate, problem was, it's never been lamped before. We went local as we're both working tomorrow. The old dog jumped the gate into the field. My mate lifted the other dog over, first mistake, he dropped it on a strand of electric wire and it didn't like it one bit, anyway, no harm done, just a little shock! Got the first rabbit in the beam and slipped the old dog, it went straight to the wood and the old dog was bending it up and down along the edge, he struck picked it up, but somehow it got out of his mouth and escaped. Slipped the bitch on the next one, but it did'nt have clue and just ran around the field, and came back. Next one, the old dog again. It made a beeline for the ditch at the edge of the field, and straight into it followed by the dog. Disaster, the dog took a bad tumble, he crawled out of the ditch seconds later, looking a bit shaken but ok. I put him on the lead and we carried on. The next minute he was walking like a drunken man, and finally his legs gave way, and he lay down. What to do? Simple, I picked him up and carried him to the nearest road gate, meaning to leave him with my mate and get the van, but when I put him down he started pulling on the lead again. So we did a slow walk back to the van and home. He's been a good dog, but I think he's getting too old now for this job. Quote Link to post
