Squirrel_Basher 17,102
This one fell for a cheese and tomato sandwich in brown bread and a dash of mayonase! . A while ago i had a long run of trapping rats in my unit where i store building materials and keep the ferrets .The unit is amongst a complex of others but im the only one with rats it appears .The owner ,in his wisdom ,has partly clad the ends and backs that face his house with brickwork which leaves openings at the cavity ends that are prime rat real-estate as the insultion is on show.Anyway, last night i saw a fecker run along the front of my unit and into the gap by the sliding door .So much junk and piled up wood in there that it was soon lost to veiw .Placed the remain of a sandwich in a cage trap ,fed the ferrets and went back this morning to find a result ,although not the fecker id seen as it was an old fecker with a twisted tale and this was a 'clean' young doe .Part of me wants to set up a poison bait station whilst the other part and the part that will win ,says just keep up the trapping as its interesting and keeps the ferrets amused . This is number 35 since first noticing a problem . Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Judging by what ye saying and showing, mate? Ye have an established and on going problem there. Bait's the only answer - if ye want temporary eradication. Proofing would then need to be carried out, of course. Ye'd know all that already ~ I'm just talking to the House here Trapping them at that rate? Ye just skimming the top off them. Long as ye happy to live with the dire risks to ye health, I guess that's up to you. Personally, I wouldn't. I'd wipe them out. As for eating a sandwich, having been any where near that enviroment? Jesus! Quote Link to post
Ron Weasley 83
I'm with Ditchy on this one mate. The rate you're trapping them is nothing like enough to control them. Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Forgive me if i didnt make it clear .I HAD a problem a while back that i sorted with the traps ,a cage and two fenns .I have a sand covered threshhold just inside the unit which tells me just what is going on and this has only recently been breached again by rats .I have searched the area inside out and im satisfied there is no colony ,only oportunists from god knows where. The greasy trail left by the last lot has gone along with the sweet smell .Someone nearby has a colony and is keeping quiet but im afraid poison is not my thing ,never has been ,never will . The cheese and tomato sandwich is there again tonight so fingers crossed on that scabby buck . Quote Link to post
