Fenlander 0
Hi Mate, Cant help with 1950's bit (what piece of legislation exactly?? the protection of birds acts?) but the 1981 act can be found here as a starter for ten http://www.jncc.gov.uk/page-3614#download , if you scroll down its got all the sections as pdf's. This is the complete act at the time it got Royal Assent I though the 1981 act consolidated all the previous legislation but I may be wrong...... One word of warning- the Act is ever evolving and is updated by other legislation (i.e definition of protected species for eg.)- the website link explains this bit also. Hope this helps, Lloyd This place alos gives some decent background info http://www.naturenet.net/law/wcagen.html
fishfish 17
chers mate, ille have a look, the bit i was intrested in was the bit that dealt with bows, catty's etc!
Fenlander 0
Hmmmm...this is an interesting area. I have safely assumed you are talking about whether you may be able to take legal quarry with a either bow or catty. Now in Part I of the Act the use of "any bow or crossbow" to kill or take any wild bird is prohibited and an offence. No direct mention of catty. For other legal wild animal quarry species the bow or crossbow dose not appear to be prohibited, nor dose the catty. These are my interpretations only. If in doubt I would contact the appropriate Govt body, even BASC technical Dept might be of use Like I said my interpretations only....go careful (as I'm sure you are) and I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong, Lloyd

john b 38
the bit i want to read i cant! my pc doesnt do pdf!!!!!!!!! section one on : http://www.jncc.gov.uk/page-3614 The PDF reader is free from here http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/ You might as well get it installed, a lot of the legal douments on the web are in this format Oh and the section quoted for birds is then repeated almost word for word in section 11.1 to cover mammals and I think a catapult would probably be classed as a bow weapon but I've no idea if there is any case law precedent on that. However section 16.3 goes on to say that 11.1 doesn't apply 'if a license is granted' but I think that this license would need to specify that a method was allowed, not just the quarry.
