After suffering for the past few years under the avalanche of tv, radio, newspaper etc. hype about broadband I finally have it myself! I think the speed is 1mb, beats the 40k I had this morning that's for sure. I live out in the sticks, so it's a wireless arrangement. No cable or fancy fibre optic thingamajiggys here. Click and the page loads, no time to make a cuppa between each page anymore I took my usual tour around a few websites and now what do I do I'm at a fecking loss, but still this thing is excellent Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Only I'd like ye to get over the honeymoon period and see how it pans out long term. My Vodafone 3G's ok, far as it goes. But the first year's likely about up by now so I'll be free to change. I'm on 236.8 KBS, as ye know. Whole Meg would seem heaven to me too. I'm thinking ahead to when I can afford a powerfull new PC, of course. Fresh start? Missie 1 Posted February 13, 2008 Report Share Posted February 13, 2008 Ditch, vodafone at home is quite good if you are already a vodafone customer and it gives up to 8meg depending on the area. I'm not sure what I get here but its pretty quick, I think they said its levelled out at about 4meg. There are however cheaper than vodafone, I had a thing through the door today about free bb from talk talk but I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole after the farce they made of my landline. This forum may yield some good information if you post a question on your own area. If memory serves me right, on the Department of Communications website there's a list/interactive map that tells you of broadband operators in your area. How comprehensive this list is I can't say, also be worth your while asking the neighbours. Some of mine had it months before I knew, they all assumed everyone knew. Guest JohnGalway Posted February 14, 2008 Report Share Posted February 14, 2008 Problem was that our previous government (same shower still in there, idiots are such voters) sold the state owned telecommunications company. Before that, I'm lead to believe, Ireland had one of the best broadband roll outs in Europe. However, once the accountants (all offence intended) got their hands on the company they stopped it, leaving anyone outside of a major population centre well and truly screwed (sure you could get satalite type but who can justify that expense?). So it was left to other companies to provide broadband access for us mere country folk (who obviously don't matter). It's just in the last year I think broadband has been available in my area, once I found out about it I ordered it ASAP. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
