Guest shay
The thing is when mods are few a tighter ship is kept, when too many mods are on a board there are too many differences of opinion, "like too many cooks spoil the broth" They even fall out with each other (believe me) Similar to the government and the old bill and how they deal with unimportant matters instead of the serious ones, spend all your time fannying around with peoples posts deleting here and editing there (because you can) instead of banning and curbing some of the usless goamless illiterate timewasting mouthy fuckwits that flood this place on a daily basis. (because you daren't) The mods out of you that know me will know it isn't directed at you in any way shape or form: I'm not a puppy peddlar and to be honest don't think I have ever advertised anything in there, just trying to help a mate out. Shay, There are pros and cons with either way. A small number of people moderating based on opinion can lead to favouritism, inconsistency and in the end turn the whole thing into a clique. There is debate amongst the MOD community which is a good thing. Frankly I welcome the opportunity to sense check what I am doing because sometimes it's a difficult judgement, especially when it's outside your area of knowledge. That's another reason why you need a range of MODs; I freely admit I don't know much about the dog side of this and so tend to keep out of those sections. Others are less comfortabe in other areas. With a regular community of 1400 people a day and new people joining all the time, you simply have to have more moderators active on the site. I believe that to do that successfully you have to have clear rules that everyone can read and understand and then moderate to those. I think the reason this why this whole 'buy, sell' thing has been so interesting is because it's the first time we've had a solid rule which is unambiguous and does not rely on interpretation. Look at the other rules; how do you distinguish between TEXT TALK and just bad English ? Or are we saying that anyone who can't spell can't post ? Some of the most experienced people on here left school pretty early and are not the best with the old grammar and punctuation. What about 'Offensive Language' ? Where is the yardstick that defines 'offensive' ? We don't a have of list of banned words or phrases to work to and believe me that everyone has a different point of view on that one. Maybe we can learn from this and tighten the rules for the other aspects. Now whether all the BUY/SWAP/SELL rules are right is another question. The minimum information bit was my doing - a lot of the adverts are just plain lazy and it doesn't take much to effort to get it right from the off. The 'Donator' thing was a bit of a surprise, but for long time the site has been looking for a way to stop non-contributors from abusing the facility. Any of the thresholds would have had drawbacks; minimum number of posts, minimum time joined etc. Oh, and none of you have yet PMd me yet with details of all these illegal adverts we've been missing. john b 38
Oh, and none of you have yet PMd me yet with details of all these illegal adverts we've been missing. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=40877 http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=40859 There you go Johny knock yourself out , and that's only on the first page of the terrier section " they have eyes but they do not see " Page 2 and 3 in the ten minutes it took me to get there - rapid turnover on there. Both are 'free to a good home' but yes technically For Sale so thanks for flagging them. What should we do about 'free to a good home' topics ? Do we let them through because no one is making any money ? Or do we stop them because people might be off loading problem dogs on the unsuspecting ? (I am NOT suggesting either of these two were doing that). I've been talking to Ian and he'll probably float some alternative proposals about who can advertise and where.
