Guest baldie
What do you have now? What do you wish to aquire? Have you land to support the new calibre,s? Quote Link to post
russian sniper 0
Have got .17HMR and .22-250 Looking to acquire .22lr and a red deer calibre Have shooting permission on a sizeable farm with roe and red deer on it ATB Daz Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
Right buddy, the land has to be passed for FULLBORE for a start, thats anything bigger than .220 swift.if it is, proceed, or have another land check done. You have the quarry there so thats not a problem, and dont let them tell you to take dmq,s etc, because thats bollocks. The .22lr is no problem as you have a .17hmr, the good reason you put down, is noise, and the need for a quiet subsonic rifle, and make sure you ask for a moderator at the same time. You need to decide on a calibre for reds, if you ask for a .243, they are likely to ask you to get rid of the 22-250, as the .243 will do fox/deer.Personally i would go for something bigger like a 6.5x55 or .270, and then you could keep the 22-250 for fox. However they are likely to allow the big gun only on deer then. russian sniper 0
Thanks for the info mate, i currently use the 22-250 for fox and roe deer. Also i have got an "open" ticket so i can use my firearms on any land i have permission on. With no conditions imposed by the chief of police. I currently reload for my 22-250 and would like to do the same for the deer calibre. Am looking into 6.5x55 swedish, 7m-08 and possibly .308 Cheers Daz Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
All good cartridges them buddy, though i would think the 7mm would smoke roe deer? its proper nasty. The swede is a damn good cartridge, easy to load for, a huge variety of bullet weights in all types, and will kill anything that walks in this country, including Red stags. The .308 is up to anything. Quote Link to post
russian sniper 0
I have heard nothing but good things about the 6.5x55 swedish so i think thats the 1 i will go for. Have been looking through my speer reloading book and the variety in bullet type and weight in 6.5x55 looks quite good! Have been offered a sako finnfire in .22lr in mint condition and having looked at the pics i was sent think it really does look good! Hopefully the variation won't take too long!
