Tales of Hunts Past, Chapter 1

Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge in Bradley County Arkansas with my late Father Circa 1996. He was was Scottish My late Mother was Old English thus the height differential.

The last picture was a very special hunt. The fog lifted around 10:00 AM and then came the Ducks. It was surreal.

When the Mallards parachute underneath the hardwood canopy, it’s electrifying. A group of 50 to 100 Ducks will cause the hair on the back of your neck to rise when they land in the Decoys.

Ducks are special. We do not refer to them as mere birds.  They come all the way from Canada and return each season—-a magnificent feat. We also have reverence for Water Fowl in general and as such, the term deserves capitalization and each element of the term merits its own designated word. Decoy earns the upper case also. A story of heritage and tradition is told by the mere sight of Decoys depending upon the generation from whence they came.
