ianrob 2 Posted December 1, 2007 Report Share Posted December 1, 2007 JUST CURIOUS TO SEE WHAT THE MAJORITY OF FERRETERS USE OR NOT. I USE A LOCATOR. I use a locator. Mainly for peace of mind. I ferreted many years without one, but having one allows you to tackle bigger sets, and as someone else said, allows you to work later. You can also work hedges with heavy cover, by using longnets both sides and stops or short nets through any gaps. If using the mark 3 collars, make sure they can't come off before doing these types of hedges though, as it's no good finding the collar slipped off as you will probably not find your ferret. Someone earlier on another subject said the locator was only £125, well mine with 2 collars cost me £175, so they're not cheap. If you choose small sets you can manage without, but as I say, it's comforting to know you're in touch. Like mobile phones, they're new technology, and some can't remember what it was like without them. It was just the same, possibly better in some ways, more natural. I collar my ferrets, but keep the box in my pocket, it's rarely on, but there if I need it, so I have the best of both worlds Quote Link to post
