fly and fern update

Recommended Posts

heres another update of how the pups are doing as its been a few weeks since the last one .fly and fern are 36 weeks this coming tuesday and are just under 24"tts. They are still being fed on raw and are exercise daily every morning for a couple of hours , me and my dad are both really chuffed with how they are looking.they are jumping well ,but ferns the more confident jumper and fly just follows on behind.we are still 100% that they'll both retrieve (gundog scurry ; bring it on) yeah WATER!! ,this stuff does'nt faze them and im pretty sure fly would swim the width of the ocean aslong as there was something to retrieve back .put a thorn bush ,brambles and bracken in front of these two and a scent in amid it all and they will work straight through it (certainly fern who will pile on in) , i am quite surprised really as they are predominantly whippet x grey but the little bit of deerhound and collie in there pedigree has certainly helped imo.as for speed we certainly think they are quick but lets see how they do at the racing game next summer , it would be really nice to see them take to it but they havent yet saw a muzzle or lure.we have taken them out on the lamp 3 times now for a few runs about 4 or 5 to be exact ,we have been running them doubled up and we have managed to put a rabbit in the bag all three nights.you are probabley wondering why we are running them doubled up on rabbits ,its not that we want to turn our lamping activites into a doubled up coursing match but to help increase the chances of a catch aswell as helping young ferns turn and strike with out her having alot of negative nights in the prosess of learning , this is due to her often over shooting with her being so quick.
