Guest FOXDOG
Just wondering how many runs and how often you would give a young dog of say 18 months? I started the dog on foxes about a month ago and I dont want to sicken him so generaly how much is too much? Oh and if your not from the emerald isle I am talking pre ban Quote Link to post

lucky 578
it all depends on the dog itself, how mature is it, how well bred is it, condition etc, what has it been like on its previous foxes. i like to give them a few doubled up when starting them, but i suppose i start them a bit early depending on how old they are when the season comes around. yours should be perfect to start the season off with plenty of easy foxes (cubs) then let him have a few decent ones towards the back end of the season. i have a young dog here that is getting everything single handed (when i go to ireland lamping) now, he's in the process of learning the knack at the mo, last season he was to young to be thrown in at the deep end so he was doubled up on loads then had a couple single handed towards the end, but it is bred right and showing all the right signs so fingers crossed. Guest FOXDOG
Thanks for the reply lucky the dog is well bred and in good condition, I dont have the luxury of another fox dog at the moment so the dog was entered on his own and has never been run with another dog At this age would you let them have more than one a night? Up to now I have stopped after one a night, hopefully he will continue the way he is going Quote Link to post
lucky 578
i suppose that depends on how easy he is killing them ? if he's killing them easy without taking any stick let him have a couple just dont over do it you dont want to spoil him. Quote Link to post
Guest FOXDOG
Hes not taking much stick at all mate, I think he should be able to handle 2 or 3 a night now and then I will take it easy thanks mate Quote Link to post
