Guest Ditch_Shitter
Dean O' took me for a trip round his own places last night. Nothing really happening on the fields, so we took to the woods. I must admit, I was quite amazed when, inside a few minutes, Dean pointed out a stark white patch, about the size of a playing card. It was just inside the cover of a birch tree and barely much above head height. Dean explained how they sleep soundly as hell. Indeed, this one never so much as moved a feather as we stood there discussing it from about ten feet away! Dean shoudered his gun. A sharp crack and that b*stard wasn't going to see the dawn! Leaving that one to pick up on the way back, we marched on down the ankle deep and waist high track till once again, Dean pointed out a completely visible magpie, again barely nine foot up a birch tree! I'd simply never experianced anything like this before! This time Dean announced he wanted to get a closer shot at it and simply crashed towards it, completely heedless of the noise he was making. It never stirred! Well, not that is untill Dean put something undigestable in it's guts and down that one came too. A wood pigeon was also accounted for, but that was left as a treat for the foxes. So, quite content with the small but enjoyable tally, we headed back to the motor and home. My thanks to Dean O' for a most enjoyable and enlightning evening Two Less! Quote Link to post
Guest The Shaman
Bugger me Ditch I've been using the wrong tactics. Isn't it infuriating when you spend ages stalking a maggie, but he buggers off before you get the cross hairs on it. Yet you can pass within inches of a roadkill and the maggie jumps a couple of feet out of the way, waits till the cars pass then hops back to feed again. Or if your in a tractor your practically ignored, but as soon as you have a gun he buggers off, they have a way of knowing and scarper - I'm gonna have to try Dean O's tactics Quote Link to post
