The Real Country Sportsman?

I'M A REAL COUNTRYSPORTS MAN! You would never catch

me using anything but proper dry flies for trout, and when

I'm shooting, I never raise my gun to a bird unless it's at least

30 yards up. I like a day or two at the Salmon, too. and I take

a week at one of the decent beats of the Spey every year with

some friends. I can't abide these chaps who work terriers and lurchers-

they're all poachers!

 

I'M A REAL COUNTRY SPORTSMAN! I have a small rough shoot,

and my friends and I release some pheasants to provide better

sport. The shoot does'nt have really high birds, but we try to be

selective. I prefer to fly-fish when I can, but if the water is really high,

I sometimes spin. These terrier men are a bit rough and ready, but

they do come in handy at times, especially if a den of cubs appears

near the shoot. I can't see the need for lurchers, myself aren't

they just poachers dogs?

 

I'M A REAL COUNTRY SPORTSMAN! I don't have a 'shoot',

really, but I do have permission from a couple of local

farmers to shoot over their ground, and I sometimes have a

good day decoying pigeons, or flighting ducks over a wet

patch after heavy rain. Sometimes there's the odd pheasant or

two, which come over the boundary from the shoot next door,

They never miss them - they have hundreds over there I like

fishing, too - modern trout fisheries have a good stock, and

it's great fun. Some of my friends have terriers, and its really

exciting going out with them and watching them work. Some

of these wee dogs are fantastic!

 

I'M A REAL COUNTRY SPORTSMAN! I have three terriers, and

they are the best workers for miles. If it was'nt for my

terriers, the shoots round here would be over-run by foxes.

My Dad had terriers too, and he used to have a lurcher, it

was a great dog - never missed a hare in its life. He used to

take me up on the moors when he thought the keeper would

be away, and we would try to get a good run with the dog.

When she put up a hare, she just flew over the ground, and

we were always terrified she would run into a fence or hurt

herself. I go fishing too, and it's a great laugh to watch all

those SNOBS flogging away with fancy flies. Don't they know

that the flies would work better if they had maggots on them?

I can't stand these toffee-nosed folk with posh accents and

big fancy shoots. they look down their neses at everybody.

 

DO YOU KNOW ME??? Of course you do. I'm there on

every shooting day, fish every water and voice my

opinion in every group where country sports are discussed.
