Help and advice

I currently own a 5 month old Patterdale pup and, although i've owned dogs all my life, working a terrier is an area i'm very unfamiliar with. Buster (my dogs name) was aquired from good working lines, and although he's only 5 months he's a strong and lively little f***er. I did buy him with the intention of working him, so, in a way, i wasn't walking into the unknown, although i did a lot of reaserch on the breed i neglected to find out how to put him to work.

Apologies if this question has been posed many times before but, can anyone offer any advice on where to start?

There are a lot of people here who can provide excellent advise. They've even made a hunter with terriers out of me. ;) (And thanks to all of you. :signthankspin: ) The best advice is to find someone to take you into the field. Can't beat the learning that comes from seeing it done and doing it.

For some outstanding background information, although geared somewhat toward us on this side of the water, I recommend http://www.terrierman.com/ as a good place to get the theory.

I'm located North West England, Cheshire to be precise. I'm willing to travel so i can gain some knowledge, so if you don't mind a novice tagging along then giz a shout. I don't mind getting my hands dirty.

Don't talk out of your hole :hmm:

Brian, get your arse out into the fields get some permission and go and have some craic, read some books but don't believe it all, use them to help you get the gist of things, join a local club or Fell and moorland and meet people, you have some of the best land in the country around you for digging, season is coming and your young dog will be too young to see anything, so why not follow a hunt for a year while your waiting.

All the best

Shay
